Book Description

Andrew Mayhem is back! In this dark and hilarious new adventure, Andrew has started up a private investigation business with his best friend Roger (slogan: "We Solve Weird Problems"). Since his options in life will become somewhat more limited after his wife Helen gives birth to triplets, it's his last-ditch effort to get out of being stuck with a corporate day job.

One of their first clients is an attractive woman named Shirley. Keeping with the kind of luck Andrew has had his entire life, her problem is: "I think I may be a serial killer."

Yeah, he takes the job. Even after she insists on being handcuffed to him while they investigate the house where she might have stored the bodies of her victims.

But Andrew discovers that this day has much more danger in store than being handcuffed to a woman who may or may not be a homicidal maniac. Because Mr. Burke, the sadistic villain of his last adventure, has been watching Andrew and plotting a truly ghastly revenge...and the attack begins now!

Packed with the trademark demented humor, wild action, and grisly horror, this is the novel that Andrew Mayhem fans have been threatening to stab the author if he doesn't write.

Foreword by the lovely and talented JA Konrath.

"No author working today comes close to Jeff Strand's perfect mixture of comedy and terror." -- Cemetery Dance

5.0 out of 5 stars A Grand Slam!!! December 31, 2011

What a book! I discovered the Andrew Mayhem series after reading Jeff Strand's "Wolf Hunt". If you haven't read "Wolf Hunt" pick it up! You won't be disappointed. I then read the first three Andrew Mayhem books in 3 days and fell in love with the characters & storylines. This book was even better. The humor, drama, thrills, & horror have gone up a notch in the fourth book. And the ending was a punch in the gut that I didn't see coming! Wow! Get this book and read it ASAP!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read, and a terrific followup to the series! December 31, 2011

If you are a fan of this series, you know that it can be pretty rough at times for our protagonist, Andrew Mayhem. This book is no different. This book finds our hero in quite a bit of a mess, although not QUITE as bad as being tied to a chair by chainsaw wielding crazy people.

I am trying very, very hard not to spoil any of the book since it is a terrific read, and has quite a few surprises in store for long time fans. The only thing I can say is, it's been worth the wait.

If there is a single writer on this planet that does dialogue better than Jeff Strand, I'd love to know who it is. Take my advice, grab this series and hold onto your pants cause holy crap is it a ride. A good, screaming, oh dear god we are all gonna die, tire blowing out at 70mph kind of ride.

It's gory (but not the "trying entirely too hard to gross you out" gory that some writers feel the urge to do), it's crazy (in a good way), it's hilarious (again, dude's a great dialogue writer and the back and forth between Andrew and Roger never fails to be great), and it's horrifying all at the same time.

It's odd to say it's a horror book you will laugh at, or a thriller that will make you giggle, because that sounds like a complaint. It's not. This series and this writer rock at keeping the humor going, but keeping the feeling serious when it needs to be, and boy are there some serious moments.

Can't recommend it enough.

This review is from: Lost Homicidal Maniac (Answers to "Shirley") (Andrew Mayhem #4) (Kindle Edition)
Andrew is back and he is up to his neck in trouble again, just the way we like him.. I have to give Jeff Strand some big time credit on this book. My anticipation level was so high waiting for this book to come out that I had myself braced for some kind of let down, I am happy to report, there was no let down. The book was everything I hoped it would be and more. Mayhem and Roger are hilarious, the gore is abundant, the storyline is one that I never saw coming....FANTASTIC! However, prepare yourself, this isn't just any Mayhem book, somehow Strand managed to get me grossed out, choked up, laughing out loud and scared ----less at the same time. The gross, scary, laugh out loud till it hurts I am used to from Strand, the choked up part, not so much. Nice touch!!!!! If you are a fan of Jeff Strand you will LOVE this book, if you are new to Jeff Strand, you will LOVE this book! I have read this series numerous times and it never gets old.

More About the Author

Jeff Strand was born in Baltimore, Maryland, but moved to Fairbanks, Alaska when he was six months old, so his memories of Baltimore are hazy. He grew up in the cold, where he desperately wanted to be a cartoonist. Then he wanted to make video games. Then he wanted to write movies. Actually, he still wants to do all of those things, but for now he's quite happy writing lots of demented novels.

He was nominated for the Bram Stoker Award in 2006, 2008, and 2010. His novel PRESSURE has been optioned for film; he's hoping the movie will be made soon so he can scream "My baby! What have you done to my precious baby?!?"

His novels are usually classified as horror, but they're really all over the place, from comedies to thrillers to drama to, yes, even a fairy tale (FANGBOY).

Because he doesn't do cold weather anymore, he lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife and two cats.
