5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal
This is the original soundtrack in French. The "Best of A Man and a Woman" album by Francis Lai is a recording in English, and has nothing to do with the movie. This version has the wonderful, romantic music that made the movie a winner of the Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Yes, the price is outrageous(made in Japan), but I looked and could not find this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Buy it for Samba
The single track "Samba Saravah" is worth the price of admission. I have the original on vinyl buried deep in a stack and of all those records this single track is the keeper. Steep price to acquire a single track to put on my iPod but I may have to do it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this the original version, January 7, 2005
This review is from: Un Homme Et Une Femme (Audio CD)
This is the original version, in French, same as the 12 inch vinyl LP released in 1968.
Although more expensive than the later version which is sung in French-accented English ("the" pronounced "ze" and so on), THIS is the one you should buy.
Even if you don't speak a word of French or even when listening to the instrumental cuts, the passion, love, tenderness and power of this CD shines through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un Homme et Une Femme, July 16, 2001

This is one of the most beautiful collection of songs that I have ever heard. Every time I listen to my CD (morning, noon and night) I see the movie all over again. Every song while different in its own way, relates to the other, either with subtle counter melodies or sweeping harmonies. Every time I listen to this soundtrack, I hear something interesting that I missed before. If you can appreciate the classics, this should definately be in your selection for listening pleasure. Thirty five years after it's release this music is as fresh today as it was then. Definately the work of a true genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Franci Lai....in French cinema, September 2, 2004
This review is from: Un Homme Et Une Femme (Original Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
This album was actually a gift from a friend traveling in France 10 years ago. Even then it was expensive ($40). Back in 1994, there were no DVDs of this film. I could only settle for a dubbed VHS tape (terrible, terrible version by the way...you must view and hear the original French version to appreciate the beauty and spontaneity of this film). I saw "Une Homme et Une Femme" during my teens on Mexican TV. Fortunately, it was subtitled and I was able to grasp the sounds, and melodic nuances which make it so unique and timeless. Francis Lai is a prolific Chinese-French melodist. He is a contemporary of Morriconne. Lai adds his own personal and distinctive style to his musical repertoire. The theme from the film "Bilitis" is also a Francis Lai score. If like, me you find the French and Italian melodists of the 60's-70's irresistible, this CD is a "must have". It's a shame that a prolific musician like Lai is known so little in the U.S., inspite of an extensive career. Enjoy it....really! Worth every penny.. I hope Amazon will make more of his work available.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can pick up a vinyl version cheaper, BUT, March 12, 2000

If you want the true blue soundtrack on CD this is the way to go. The "Best of" version is a disappointment. The "samba" song is my favorite cut, other than the title track. Gorgeous music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like stepping back in time!, July 4, 2006
This review is from: Un Homme Et Une Femme (Audio CD)
This is the original motion picture soundtrack that won the grand prize in 1966 at the Cannes Film Festival. I saw this movie in 1968 and I still have the record album! (Who can part with great music and French besides???)I am so happy to have this CD that I can play in my car and elsewhere as I no longer possess a turntable for the LP. For me it was well worth the extra money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intensely Intimate, September 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Un Homme Et Une Femme (Original Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
Want to make her heart beat faster? This is the best soundtrack for seduction that I've found in over forty years of soundtrack collecting. On the tribute to sambas, the music combines the allure of spoken French language with Latin rhythms. I finally gave up and bought a convertible and ran away to the beach -- just so that I could do these sounds justice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Saw the movie...., July 19, 2000

I saw the movie, bought the 8-track (remember those) then the cassette which died sometime ago. I have been looking for the CD for some time and finally found it here. The price is exorbitant but so is the music. You will NEVER find better music to drive by or make love to. A snippet (about 45 sec.) of the main theme is available through MP3 and finding that encouraged my search.
