This review is from: Homocysteine: The New "Cholesterol" (Paperback)
Even though this Good Health Guide was printed back in 1999 it for me looks like being up to date, as there don't exist much newer books about Homocysteine, and for me come with comes with the important knowledge "Be ware of the Homosysteine". It shall be pointed out that 1 ½ year ago I bought and read the book written by Kilmer S. McCully, M.D., "The Heart Revolution" printed in 2000.

Maybe I've been "sleeping" but I newer by doctors, in the hospitals, or in the news have heard or seen the word Homocysteine. For example, when I and my wife 3 years ago went to the hospital, we there only were told to have measured many standard things and thereby the 3 Cholesterols, that is HDL (the healthy one), LDL and Triglyceride. But we weren't also asked to have measured the Homocysteine even though it in the book shows up being guilty for around ½ of the dead cases for persons that don't fit in the statement concerning the roles for the Cholesterol.

And in this book, on side 13, I see that I was correct when, opposite to the doctors, who then wanted to put my wife on pills for lowering her total Cholesterol, I said that the Cholesterols numbers if put together were excellent. She was then 59 years old and had total Cholesterol being 279, but with an excellent high HDL at 114, which makes 2.4 to 1, and as the book states that the lowest risk of cardiovascular disease first starts when with the Total/HDL being 3.5 to 1! But luckily my wife followed my advice and not the doctors. And later on the doctors did no change theirs opinions when I came with statements printed in many new books concerning Cholesterol!

So besides telling about Homocysteine the book also gives some good information about Cholesterol.

And in the book there also are a good telling about how the discovery (by links) of Homocysteine both before and during Dr. McCully. And the problem he then got into when coming and telling something that didn't fit to the thinking at that time concerning Cholesterol, and by that making it a les important part concerning health, and thereby disturbing the selling of the expensive patented pills against Cholesterol.

It's a good short book for getting the first knowledge to an important healthy problem, that is the forgotten, and very important, Homocysteine. And concerning which most can easily be solved by cheap pills and fruits.

So remember in the future also to have measured the Homocysteine "The New Cholesterol", which especially being low (good) or high are depending of what we are eating, and the DNA concerning which then looking on how persons in the family earlier have died. And maybe especially very important for being sure that the Homocysteine is low in a woman who are going to have a child, and thereby being sure not getting a retarded one. Concerning this last point, retarded children, there is interested writing in this Health Guide.
