Still One Of The Best Books On Veterinary Homeopathy!,
By
This review is from: The Homoeopathic Treatment of Small Animals: Principles & Practice (Paperback)
For many years this was my favorite book on veterinary homeopathy, and it's still near the very top of my list. Unlike a number of books on veterinary homeopathy that suggest remedies for specific conditions almost as if they were allopathic drugs, Dr. Day devotes quite a bit of space to case taking, the various methods used to finding the correct remedy, and case management. He even touches upon constitutional prescribing for chronic disease, but makes it clear that nobody can hope to successfully prescribe remedies for chronic conditions after reading only a few books. There is much emphasis on the need to keep reading and studying if one hopes to become successful at homeopathic prescribing. Dr. Day's "symptoms of disease with some recommended remedies" chapter follows the basic layout of Kent's repertory for the various body systems and is very easy to use. There are further chapters on homeopathic first aid, treatment of specific disease (e.g., parvo, distemper, kennel cough), mental problems, special problems affecting the young and the old, prevention of disease, and the relationship of homeopathy to conventional medicine and diagnosis (includes section on vaccinosis and drugs capable of blocking homeopathic treatment). Dr. Day also includes some helpful case studies in which different levels of prescribing were used (e.g., constitutional treatment, treatment of underlying pathology, treatment at the presenting symptom level, etc.). This is followed up with a materia medica of key remedies, a glossary of homeopathic terms, and brief sections on miasm theory, nosodes, and nutrition. All in all, highly recommended for anyone with an interest in veterinary homeopathy.

Super,
By Dr. Shawn Messonnier "The Natural Vet" (Plano, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Homoeopathic Treatment of Small Animals: Principles & Practice (Paperback)
This is a wonderful text on complementary medical therapies for pets. A great learning tool for those interested in homeopathy. I highly recommend it and as a fellow holistic veterinarian and author (8 Weeks to a Healthy Dog, The Allergy Solution for Dogs, and the award-winning The Natural Health Bible for Dogs & Cats,) I found the information quite useful.

This book is filled with a lot of valuable information for the treatment of small animals. It also goes into detail of the basic principals used it determining which remedy to use along with information on which potency should be used. This is one of the best books I have found on Homeopathy period!
If your interested in learning about Homeopathy for your animals or for yourself this is the perfect book, since it teaches you the basics along with the principles for there use, along with researching the Repertory and Meteria Medica.

I am in the process of trying some of the recommendations from Christopher Day; however, I think it best to obtain a customized analysis from the author himself. I liked the listing of symptoms and possible remedies such that if there are enough similar symptoms along with a listed remedy, a lay person could have success treating their animal at home. This all providing the case is not too complicated.

A Comprehensive Guide to Treating Small Animals with Homeopathy,
By F. Cella (Elgin, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Homoeopathic Treatment of Small Animals: Principles and Practice (Paperback)
This book is packed with information about the principles & practice of homeopathy as well as highly specific information about symptoms & potential homeopathic remedies. While it is tempting to do so - the book is not intended to be used as a "how to" manual where you can look up a symptom & apply the remedy.

I had to order a copy of this edition because my original copy is falling apart. If you can only have one book on homeopathy for pets this is the one to own! (The remedies are available from British homeopathic pharmacies.)

This is a really good book to own, but it's best to have a better understanding of homeopathy by receiving formal training. There are many insightful remedies for pets.

This book came highly recommended by Don Hamlton, DVM from New Mexico, USA. The book gives lots of conditions of animals and the best way to treat them. He does use nosodes to the benefit of the animal. He is very clear and easily understood. For the newcomer to Homeopathy, he helps with taking the case, selecting the remedy, how to manage the case. He also gives information on how to care for the remedies. There is information for different animals and the specific diseases they may get. He is also a practicing vet so his experience with homeopathic medicine is reliable. This book is a keeper in my library.
