5.0 out of 5 stars very practical & true to the POWER OF THE CROSS!, April 13, 2009
This review is from: Homosexual No More - Practical Strategies for Christians Overcoming Homosexuality (Paperback)
I bought this in 1993 b/c of my desire to help women who struggle with their sexual identity and orientation. I've been going thru it again recently b/c I have several women who have chosen to surrender to God in this area.

It keeps the complex so simple and balances it with the spiritual life of God. It is so important to remember not to over-spiritualize things by minimizing the human elements (psychological, emotional, social). Or to minimize the power of God's Word and the power of Christ's Cross and over-emphasize human efforts.

This will help the Counselor understand the Overcomer, and help the Overcomer understand God and themselves. I love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear & Knowledgeable, Healed & Restored, November 22, 2003

This review is from: Homosexual No More - Practical Strategies for Christians Overcoming Homosexuality (Paperback)
I read this book because of a recommendation from my associate pastor. Needless to say, I learned a lot about myself and why I had homosexual tendencies and thoughts at a young age.
This book explains the reasons why people are gay and tend to be drawn to that sin instead of another.
It's a very practical and spiritual book that balances out the two very well!! I never had a sexual experience with a man, but understand how that very act can ground you into believing you are infact this very sin.
It's very gentle in nature the way it's written. The author really understand the homosexual and the problems they have faced. He himself has seen people come out of this sin never to look back again.
I praise God that this information is available. For you sceptics out there I challenge you to read this book with an open heart, honesty to yourself, and a clear mind. You will learn and understand more about homosexuality more than ever before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coming Out of the Coming Out, February 25, 2012
This review is from: Homosexual No More - Practical Strategies for Christians Overcoming Homosexuality (Paperback)
Consiglio's Homosexual No More is written specifically for Christian therapists who have Christian homosexual clients. Though "you" is used throughout the book for homosexuals, it appears that it is meant to help therapists get into the homosexual experience. Sometimes the voice changes even within the same paragraph, and sometimes it is directed to therapists.

Consiglio doesn't biblically evaluate the rightness or wrongness of homosexuality, but rather uses the Bible to guide homosexuals into mental and spiritual health. Though he believes homosexual behavior is sin, the "disorientation," as he calls it, is a developmental problem. He adopts the Moberly interpretation throughout his analysis. This is not an academic book, but one immensely practical. It breathes spirituality on every page. Every principle is backed by a barrage of Scripture.

Consiglio skillfully integrates several methods of his treatment approach: behavior, rational-emotive, cognitive-behavioral, transactional analysis, journaling, and even some object-relations. It is one of the most specific books that outlines treatment that I have read. He outlines excellent treatment principles for addiction which I believe are much better than the average 12-step approach.

His treatment of masturbation is direct and specific, though some might disagree with his belief that masturbation is sinful (p. 93). Consiglio also maintains what I believe to be an inadequate view of guilt and shame, saying that guilt is healthy since it is the conviction of the Holy Spirit, whereas shame is the result of social pressure (p. 112). In contrast, I believe that there can be both healthy and biblical guilt and shame, and also unhealthy and nonbiblical aspects.

Yet, in sum, though Consiglio's discussion on some topics might be overly simplistic, every therapist who treats homosexuality from a Christian point of view will find this book superb. It is must reading!
