This was a phenominal book that addressed the basic issue of how to minister to friends, family, and members of our churches who struggle with homosexual desires. There is a balanced view between being firm and yet loving and supportive. If you are struggling with this issue or wanting to understand the difficulty of a person's position who is struggling with these desires, this is a fantastic book that gently addresses the topic.

This book was written 15 years ago, after brain scans showed differences in brain areas for heterosexuals versus homosexuals, but before brain scans showed those differences form in the womb. It was written at a time when evangelical ex-gay ministries, coordinated around the globe by Exodus International, were proclaiming any Christian could change from homosexual to heterosexual. But when their long-time leader, Alan Chambers, joined with John Smid, long-time leader of the world's oldest ex-gay ministry, Love in Action, to admit publicly that nobody had changed from homosexual to heterosexual, it changed everything. In the past year all the major evangelical ex-gay ministries in the free world shut down. Repenting of sexual orientation worked as well as repenting of eye color; either could be covered up or called something else, but there was no actual change. Every medical assn. concurs: sexual orientation is not a choice. Biology, not moral failing, is the reason some people are gay.
This book calls homosexuality "unnatural" but science has shown there is some homosexuality throughout nature, in every species studied. In recent decades some conservative translators have put the word "homosexuality" into the mouth of an ancient biblical writer, but in fact the term and concept 'homosexuality' are modern medical understandings derived from scientific evidence not known in ancient times. Bible quotes have been used to oppose every civil rights advance since the abolition of slavery. The bible is not followed when it comes to heterosexuals today. We don't stone adulterers and non-virgin brides in the street. Churches don't teach that "Anyone who divorces and remarries is living in sin against his first spouse" as Jesus said in Mark 10 and Matt 19.
