genius mechanisms,

the above/below reviewer(s) are all right if they claim that this is something we all should have had in our collections at least a decade ago. if only people ripped this band off more now, instead of gang of four or joy division, there might be one or two mindblowing, earth-rending harmonies floating around out there these days. but now is the time of the homosexuals to emerge from the shadows and change everyone's world into a perpetual midnight of musical obsession. obscurity has never been catchier...in response to the other reviewer, the homosexuals recorded a great many side-projects of varying quality, most of which are available through certain file-sharing programs. they were recorded under the monikers "george harassment," "sir aleck and the phaser," "nancy sesay and the melodaires," "ici la bas," "narki brillians," "fear merchants" "vencer w/ amos" "amos and sara" "amos and crew" "just measurers" "milk from cheltenham" "l. voag" "sara goes pop" and perhaps a few others. the vencer w/ amos (emos?) and the george harassment stuff are the most consistently great, but everything has tiny miracles in store for discerning ears.

Was lucky enough to hear "Astral Glamour" and "Hearts in Exile" on a recent 'lost in our stacks for ages' radio segment, and it isn't fair to keep this group in the brain lockboxes of djs and music editors forever. All kinds of rough glam, sweeping highs and even some lager-giggly stuff going on here; like Toy Dolls and a crowd of post-punkers having a picnic. This becomes essential the minute it gets going...big-time secret treasure.

Brilliant!,

This record is BRILLIANT. From 1977 or 1978. The songs are arty, glammy, melodic -- totally wild, totally original. A true bit of lost genius that blows away most of the heavily hyped bands of the era. This cd re-release is very good news, because the sound quality on the old (and long unavailable) vinyl re-release is pretty so-so.Apparently the folks who made this record made some others, under different band names. Anybody know the other names under which they recorded?
