Good other than height and some flimsy hardware
on August 3, 2012
The finished dimensions of this drawer are 7.5 high (includes wheels) by 14.5 w by 16.75 d. The box itself is 6 inches high, with a 5.25 inch internal height capacity. That's a disappointment because it ends up being half an inch too high for the space under my kids' beds.
The finish is a dull flat chocolate brown colour - fine, if unexciting (I would prefer an espresso finish), instructions are visual only but easy to follow and parts are well-labelled. It is of similar particulate board material to Ikea products; the base is kind of thin and the one I received, which was marked as manufactured in May 2012, was slightly warped so it took a little coaxing to get the fit snug. This box would be better with a slightly thicker base but it's probably good up to the 15 lb advertised. The wheels swivel in all directions and each wheel is attached using four screws, so if you're planning to assemble several boxes you might want to have a power screwdriver handy.
Other than the base being a bit flimsy, the only major quibble I have with the quality of this product is that the locking nuts are really cheap and poorly made - the nuts really don't grip the screw head securely and work themselves loose: two of them loosened and fell out while I had the drawer flipped over to screw on the wheels. The manufacturer really should spend an extra few cents on better locking nuts - and ideally on a slightly sturdier base. If the height hadn't been an issue I would have gone to my local hardware store to find a better quality replacement for the locking nuts, but as it is this will be going back to Amazon.
Update - for others who are looking for low-slung under bed or under-crib storage, I ended up buying Old fashioned Wooden Wine Boxes. As noted in my review of that product, it's a small project to upgrade those boxes to great under-bed storage. In addition to a better (lower) height and vastly improved sturdiness, I found that the dimensions of the wine boxes worked better than the Homz product: they have a similar width but are longer (~20 in), so three wine boxes fit under a standard crib/toddler bed with very little unused space behind them.
