Covers the basics well. Great for learning oil changes, and belt replacements. Overall, a good book if you never plan on modifying your car. However, if you want info on how to remove certian pieces of your car, if you want info on specific stuff, you won't find it here. A good basic manual, though.

This is a decent general reference book, but as I was troubleshooting an ignition problem I found that color codes and positions of wires listed are incorrect. The illustrations are black and white, grainy, and very small. Additionally they certainly appear contradict the instructions in the text.

Example : a drawing labels 4 wires coming off of a part as a,b,c,d and gives the color codes. These don't match the real part. Then the instructions say check the resistance between a and c, but the photo shows them checking between b and d. The color codes are right for the picture, but the labeled position is wrong - or is it the other way around .... who knows ????? Many of the photos are too small and grainy to verify what is being checked anyway, so now your really lost.

Another example, a section tells you to remove all the wires from the terminals on a part (so that only the case is electrically connected to the ground). Now you are asked to verify that there is voltage between terminal X and ground. How could there be!?!? Not finding any is supposed to tell you the part is bad. The photo shows it being checked with all wires connected. ?!?!? BTW one of these check is for resisitance between two teminals that show 12V between them - ZAP! there went your VOM fuse!

From these types of checks you are expected to determine if a part is faulty or not. If you have two identical hondas, one working and one not, you could use this book to get the gist of what you are supposed to be checking, otherwise its pretty useless.

There is a decent section on trouble codes which seems to be correct if not complete, and other than the nitpicky details it seems to be a good guide, but they assume the user has a good bit of knowledge and don't go into enough detail on alot of steps.

This is a good reference manual for an experienced mechanic. This book does not contain enough details for a beginner. The author of this book assumes the reader knows the major engine parts and components like crankshafts, pivot bolts, etc. and its locations. There are not enough pictures to show where the exact location of the part you are looking for and to know how it looks like. All of the pictures are black and white too, so you would have to look real close in some of them. If you are a beginner mechanic with no experience or little experience, I don't recommend this book for you. This book would be a good reference manual for an experienced mechanic. This book has good information about the specifications on different areas of the car like bolt torque, logical electrical wiring diagrams, etc....

It's a detent starters, but if you know how to search on the web, you can find the Helms manual which is much better. The big flaw of Haynes is that if you don't know where to search for a part, the close-up won't help you locate it.
It also won't help you troubleshoot soemthing. For that join a forum or club, and use the book as a reference to do the repair once troubleshooting is done.

I used it for electrical and for such it's fine...

i have used this manual several times both for basic maintenance
and for repairs including brake jobs, heater core replacement (which requires removing the entire dashboard and instrument panel), and CV axle replacement.

well worth the price. will probably pay for itself
the first time you use it instead of paying someone
else to do the work.

good section on tuneups and routine maintenance.
appears to cover any work i would be inclined to attempt.

The service, the book, the shipping: all good. Timing was not, the car was stolen before we had a chance to use the manual. I guess I'm glad we hadn't fixed it all up for the thief! No word on finding it, but I guess that's the way it is with '92 Honda Civics. (16 year old grandson is pretty bummed though). Thanks,

Item is OK. Helped me a lot with my troubleshooting and fixes. Useful in knowing which parts to fix, how they work, and troubleshooting.

I bought this for the specific purcpose of replacing the cooling system thermostat in my 94 Civic and, secondarily, flushing the system. A few years ago I sucessfully and quite easily replaced the radiator (I have no idea which reference I used at the time).

Well, I am left with the question as to whether or not there are any coolant engine-block drains. Haynes says there are 2 but I couldn't find them - the photos are wrong for 94 (at least) and after checking several sources including Chiltons and Alldata from my public library, I still don't know if the block has any coolant drains. So rather than a flush, I simply drained the rad and replaced the thermostat. At least those instructions were OK.

From looking at the reviews for Chilton's, it looks like these DIY books are of questionable quality. Maybe the publishers need to look at updating these books more frequently so they have correct information rather than trying to capture 10 years worth of changes with a single reference which has few descriptions for specific years and sub-models. Maybe they are published by the auto manufactureres to confound the do-it-yourselfer and generate more business for their dealers!

I way out in the middle east, and I got this item in a much faster time than anything else i've been sent!!! bravo zulu!

does not cover ecu types as well.
