Honda Tech Manual Would be a Better Choice,

The British-English in Haynes is entertaining, but sometimes unclear. Unfortunately the XL1000 Varadero instructions are often included in the same column with the VTR instructions, so you must be careful not to lose your place while working. This book is a good addition to the Honda manual, which recommends replacing almost everything (which is not cheap.) The Haynes book more realistically lets you know when it's okay to simply clean a bolt and apply fresh threadlock whereas the Honda manual demands the purchase of a new bolt with the threadlock preapplied.
