This book has some of the most beautiful illustrations I have ever seen in ANY children's book. It's simply beautiful, and worth the purchase price, even if the story pages were blank! The artwork is just gorgeous.

But, as some of the other reviewers have mentioned, the storyline is not so great. I thought it would be more about the main characters playing together, but the majority of the book is about Hondo playing at the beach with ANOTHER dog and fabian playing by himself at the house. I thought it was weird to have two main charcters that didn't interact at all with one another.

It's a good book for a child who is learning to read, but I think my own toddler found the story confusing.

I don't know how your child will like this short and simple book, but I thought it's about the sweetest thing I've seen! The author is a gifted artist and evokes what people love about animals. Warm and fuzzy!

I bought this book based upon its previous glowing reviews, however after reading several Rainy Dohaney books, this just doesn't stack up.

The artwork is beautiful, but this book is not engaging enough for any child over the age of 20 months or so. My 3 1/2 year old liked the art, but was bored by the story and kept asking questions wanting to know MORE about what was going on. She was intrigued, but bored.

It's not a TERRIBLE book, it's just a dull book. If you like this art style I highly recommend TINKA or MY BEST SWEET POTATO, which have become steady favorites in our home, and others whom we have given them to.
