1.0 out of 5 stars Just Terrible
So I read some positive reviews about this book and got it.

My Review: This was one of the worst books I've ever picked up. Period.

Why?

1. It's a collection of blog posts organized by category (e.g., chapter).

2. Each chapter essentially says the same thing in each post

3. They can't stop tooting their own...

I just put my copy in the trash.

Even though the book is pretty cheap - use the time you'd spend on this book somewhere else...

After reading all the positive reviews on this book I thought I found an undiscovered nugget. Too bad I was disappointed.

The book has absolutely no flow. It's a bunch of blog posts so there is no coherent structure and reading pieces of different authors thus writing style really makes this book a terrible read. There is some good information in this book. Too bad it's all just text. A lot of ideas and concepts could have been clarified with images instead of pages of text.

After 5 chapters I had to lay down this book. I doubt I will finish this book just because it's not worth reading a bunch of blog posts. This book has promising ideas and great ideas, but the way it was presented is terrible.

I'm a big fan of the idea of conversion paths and Ion Interactive, the company created and run by the authors of this book. But I feel very much mislead by this booK. Weighing in at nearly 400 pages I thought i was going get a detailed and comprehensive explication of the concept of "Post-click marketing." What I got was a poorly organized and highly repetitive hodge-podge of old blog posts. This might be tolerable if there was at least some information but it is all short, snappy bullet points and buzz words lacking details, explanation and examples. Not useful. A waste of time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Important concepts but let down by average delivery., August 25, 2010

I found this book a little disappointing as it was a little repetitive. I enjoyed the discussions surrounding post click marketing and the author highlighted how post click marketing is integral in today's online environment. However, I found a number of blogs in the book simply plugging their own business and any real depth surrounding 'How to undertake post click marketing' was lacking. Sure landing pages, segmentation and conversions are discussed but only at a superficial level. I found the book contained nearly all blogs which was a little contrary to the review provided. Not bad but not great. Anyway just my opinion. Hope this helps make your decision whether to purchase easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, but incredibly useful too!, February 8, 2009
This review is from: Honest Seduction: Using Post-Click Marketing to Turn Landing Pages into Game Changers (Paperback)
I first heard the term "post-click marketing" a little over a year ago. For an online marketer it was like a 9-zillion watt light bulb going off. If you think you're doing online marketing effectively, and you don't have any idea what post-click marketing is, you need this book.

But this book isn't only a thorough "post-click marketing" handbook. With the commentary and explanation in each chapter, it's also a great story any entrepreneur can relate to: once you come up with an amazing, ground-breaking idea, what do you DO with it, and how do you carve out a new category in a crowded marketplace?

5.0 out of 5 stars Selling come full-circle, May 31, 2009
By
This review is from: Honest Seduction: Using Post-Click Marketing to Turn Landing Pages into Game Changers (Paperback)

What I liked most about "Honest Seduction" was the big-picture thinking.

I likely take some different lessons from the book than most.

I find the evolution of e-commerce to be ironic. So there we were in the mid 1990s thinking that the internet was absolutely going to change the world, and it has. But we assumed the systems we'd build, the tools we'd use and the methods we'd use to peddle our wares would surely supplant all the old school ways in which we'd done things prior. So of course, it follows, that these new ways had to be completely different from and invalidate the old ways (many of which worked well).

The i-on group reminds us that just because we're selling on the internet doesn't have to completely replace the old-school [proven] methods of selling - The internet lets us use those same, proven methods of selling and just execute faster and better.

What reinforced that message with me was the example Justin Talerico gave - of how a brick and mortar salesman, with just a few questions, is able to both tailor the sales experience to his prospect and qualify the prospect's propensity to convert. Isn't that what it all comes back to? Why aren't more companies taking this approach online?

Great job, guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good and insightful - Ion are game changers themselves, February 26, 2009
By
This review is from: Honest Seduction: Using Post-Click Marketing to Turn Landing Pages into Game Changers (Paperback)
I have been aware of Ion Interactive's approach to optimization of online marketing for some time, and it is good to finally see all the ideas put together in one single book - fascinating to see the concept of post-click marketing develop from the germ of an idea to a (potentially) industry-changing approach. Very good idea of Ion to define their blue ocean and swim in it..heartily recommended for good insights that will leave you wondering why you did not think of certain things before (what do you mean " we need a web site"? - we need convincing landing path experiences).
Minor nits: my eyesight is fading, but with glasses I am usually able to read all. Had to get out the magnifying glasses for some illustrations (see the ROI calculators on pages 345-347) - they really might have been a bit bigger...

5.0 out of 5 stars Conversion Paths - Sheer Genius!, July 13, 2009

In wish that I had found this book/website (http://ioninteractive.com) years ago.

I had resigned myself to only 2 to 4% landing page conversions. Frankly, that was enough to discourage me from serious PPC efforts. Landing pages are fine (for some instances) and some work well. But I want a longer relationship with my potential customers. I want to know what their interests and needs are so I can develop information products to address those needs. I want them to trust me with their personal information. The folks at Ion Interactive have appeared to have found the segmentation "secret sauce."

Either way, building a "conversion path" with simple, clear, but significant self-segmenting choices through message-matched web pages makes much more sense. See [..]

5.0 out of 5 stars A fresh new approach to the difficult science of online conversion, February 20, 2009
This review is from: Honest Seduction: Using Post-Click Marketing to Turn Landing Pages into Game Changers (Paperback)
Having run online businesses for years I have learned that nothing is more important than developing an effective and organized process for increasing conversions. The PostClick Marketing people have clearly re-invented the traditional landing page approach and having read the book I would honestly recommend it to anyone interested in increasing their online business performance
