5.0 out of 5 stars Works well November 17, 2012
Verified Purchase
I bought this device so I could use my netbook computer to wirelessly stream Slingbox to my TV. As it turns out, my netbook does not have enough horsepower to do this, but a normal notebook computer worked just fine.

Setup was a snap and in less than 10 minutes I was streaming movies wirelessly from my Android (Droid X) phone to a TV. The content played back flawlessly (A DVD movie I had shrunk down to 700meg) and the movie looked superb. Displaying photos from my Andriod phone worked fine except everytime I hit the next button, the TV would flash back to the 'nStream' ready screen and then display the next photo. It would be better if it could just go from one photo to the next with out the blinking intervening screen. Also, be aware that when your Android phone or tablet dims (to conserve power) the movie will stop streaming to the TV... this means that you'll have to go to your Android's settings to turn off screen blanking - kind of a minor bummer.

PC's and Macs have an option to display the computer desktop - an option an Android (and probably iPhone) user does not have. This will come in handy for people who want to hook up their computer for use as a Home Theater PC or for corporate users who want to send their content to a projector. Since the 'nStream' device can plug into your Internet gateway (i.e. router) you can also surf the web while streaming content web pages wirelessly to your TV. This seemed to require more CPU power than my 3 year old netbook could muster as webpages were slow to paint. However, once I connected a modern notebook computer, webpages and streaming were fine.

1.0 out of 5 stars You will likely be dissapointed November 25, 2013

Clunky, clumsy and inconvenient. Works sometimes, sometimes does not. Must turn it on and off to use it without keeping it running and just switching TV inputs. Not a novice here. I am a network engineer and find this to be a complete waste of money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works well for replication, but... March 12, 2013
Verified Purchase
The reason I had ordered this was for the possibility of being able to use the internet on my HDTV independently of my computer. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Tech support at Honestech was extremely helpful in trying to aid in my setup of the device, more of which was that I needed to create a wired connection, rather than wireless. For those of you who do decide to give the unit a try and want to set up a wired connection, if you have a wireless set up on a second computer for example, like I did, you have to re-configure your settings on that computer vs. your main computer, and just an FYI with that, it will not affect anything other than changing your connection to the Nscreen.

I was rather disappointed that I couldn't use it independently like I had hoped, but I was able to find a suitable alternative in the end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works Great for Content on Hard Drive January 18, 2013
Verified Purchase
The unit arrived quickly and as described. Decided to test it before I installed it in our media room. Hooked it up between my work notebook and our bedroom TV. Fired up a movie that was on the hard drive of my notebook. It played flawlessly. I swear I even had surround sound. But, the real reason I bought it was for playing TV from my Slingbox at our vacation home back at our regular home. Picture was fine, but the sound only played from the notebook not the TV. Because it was being shown through the nScreen, there was a noticeable lag between the picture and the sound. I used both the Slingbox application and the web based playback and had the same problem with both. Tried another movie that was on my notebook and, once again, it played beautifully with perfect sound.Sadly, I only wanted this for Slingbox playback, so it went back.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor implementation February 28, 2013
Verified Purchase
It wasn't until I received the product and read the setup instructions that I realized this has a major flaw. To stream to it wirelessly, you have to connect to it as your network which means you have to disconnect from your real network. I want to be able to stream videos like YouTube and other educational videos in the classroom from a tablet but can't. I was so disappointed. Maybe in their next version they will fix that issue.
