Pop music at its best!,
By Mike G. "Loves UK pop" (San Diego, CA USA) - See all my reviews

Beautiful music. Alex Parks has a gorgeous and compelling voice. It's a shame more people in the US don't know about her. Fellow Yanks, you're missing out!
Not "Dance" music or typical party tunes but pop music at its best. The tunes are beautiful; the lyrics are fascinating, thought provoking and too strongly expressive for the songs to be "ambient". Some of the songs seem like overheard conversations or excerpts from someone's diary: wonderful, raw, genuine and familiar. Recommended if you like Beth Hart or Aimee Mann.

please listen (on headphones or at full volume) to the hauntingly beautiful voice of an out and proud young lady who articulates the myriad feelings of those who are not usually heard, but these words will echo in the hearts of gay youth across the world.........and wait for the hidden track at the end....you will laugh with delight...!!!

Haunting and passionate - a folk soul dream,
By deepbluesky (London, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honesty (Audio CD)
I love this album and yet I find it hard to articulate why. In some ways it's like trying to describe what's so wonderful about a Nick Drake album... your response to the music is deeply personal and no two people will hear it the same way. Some people will 'get' this multifaceted jewel of an album and love it, some will find it dull.
It's in the folk/pop genre, with an acoustic ambient feel. Overall it's subtle, beautiful and evocative. A lot of the time it's very dreamy, sometimes it's passionate, exciting and almost raw, while the hidden track is camp and sophisticated. Alex's beautiful voice always has an extraordinary power to move, and here we hear her range - emotional and vocal - has grown enormously since her debut album. The instrumentals are lovely, interesting and flowing. Several songs have guitar tracks that sound almost like running water. The album works its seductive way under your skin. In amongst the folk dreaminess, there are surprising passages of incredibly catchy pop. Meanwhile, the lyrics are astonishingly personal. How many women have written songs about their feelings for a woman lover? Honesty is a brave, honest and unpretentious piece of work, written and sung from the heart, and feels like a piece of Alex's soul. If you have an open heart and eclectic musical tastes, then buy this album. Best tracks: Lie, Out of Touch, So Emotional, Lost Without a Name, Adore, Sweeter and Sweeter, Truth or Dare, Moment, Tail and All (hidden track). Masterpiece of the album: Truth or Dare.

Music that rewards you,
By Scentnoodle (Leeds, UK) - See all my reviews

"Honesty" is a beautiful, many-layered album. Alex Parks has taken her time to craft the songs on here and her efforts have not been in vain. From the lullaby-like "Out of Touch", through the catchy "Looking for Water", "Honesty" and "From the Inside" to the darker and mysterious qualities of "Lie", "Sweeter and Sweeter" and "Truth or Dare", this album has songs to fill every mood and you will find your favourites changing as you listen to this more and more. A real grower and one that will reward you for many years to come.
PS. Don't forget to keep listening for the hidden track, "Tail and All" at the end!

A change of direction that's paid off,

It's been a long time in the making, Honesty is Alex Parks second album. This album has a totally different sound to Introduction, having a very folky feel to it. I was quite worried upon initially hearing the album as Alex's vocals are generally much softer than we have previously heard, but it works very well. There are a wide variety of styles on the album, from Adore, Lost Without A Name and From The Inside that are emotionally powerful tracks, Out Of Touch and Get Out are very chilled, the alternative zero 7 esque Truth or Dare, and the light hearted Honesty and hidden track Tail And All(perhaps the biggest surprise on the album!). My only real critisism is that I would have liked to hear a couple more tracks where Alex sings with the raw power of her voice - Lie is probably the only song where she does this consistently, however there are several others where she does sing parts of the song powerfully, however I can forgive this as the quality of the tracks that are there is excellent
Whilst Alex has an established fanbase in the UK, she is yet to build up a significant following in America. Hopefully this album will put her on the first step to becoming a major international artist

Alex Parks could sing "Mary had a little lamb" and it would be the most beautiful song in the world.
Her voice compels me to exclaim that I adore her voice and her artistry. You rock, Baby Doll! Cannot wait to hear what she's done recently...her voice is simply magic.
