Delicately layered acoustic pop,
By A Customer
This review is from: Honey Bee (Audio CD)
This marvelous UK band, unfairly saddled with the shoegazing kiss-of-death, weave splendid songs of wistfulness and loss. The songwriting team of KJ McKillop and Russell Yates improve upon their solid debut lp ...XYZ and Yates' voice has never sounded as vulnerable. Standout tracks include "I Wanted To See You To See If I Wanted You" and "Joe Courtesy" and the album is laced with some bizarre acoustic sounds. Less countrified than ...XYZ, less polished than Live a Little, Love a Lot.

Indie perfection,

Honey Bee is my favorite of their three excellent albums. The slight country influences are indeed toned down and the whole introspective mood is captivating, as in "Joe Courtesy," "Asleep at the Wheel" and "You Don't Listen." Perhaps their most catchy track yet is the not altogether tongue-in-cheek "I Wanted To See You To See If I Wanted You" which might have been a radio hit for a better publicized band. Their catalog is all currently import but well worth the extra money.

Took me awhile to stumble upon these guys, but am I ever glad I did! They've become one of my favorite bands of all time. "Honey Bee" is my favorite of their four albums (although I like their three eps for Hut a lot, too). This album is so subtle and charming, stuffed with odd moments of light-handed production and self-deprecation, lovely melodies and off-kilter harmonies...Moose is a great band and this album captures them at their best. "I Wanted To See You To See If I Wanted You" should have been a radio hit.
