A poignant validation of married life living with ADD,
By TL Rink (Seattle, Washington) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honey, Are You Listening? (Minirth Meier New Life Clinic) (Paperback)
I saw so much of my marriage in this book that taught me to cope with, laugh, and even enjoy the "spice" that living with an ADD mate can bring. It validated a lot of the frustration and lack of understanding I was feeling towards my husband and pointed out areas that I could improve, as the non-ADD mate, in order to make our marriage not just tolerable but successful and fulfilling. It also offered some great tips for raising the ADD child and making their school experience successful . While it never goes away, this book teaches you that ADD is just another of life's curves that with various strategies and hard work can be straightened enough to make life bearable. Written from the perspectives of a husband and wife living with ADD in their marriage it is an easy, quick read that offers invaluable insights. Highly reccommended!!!

I Saw My Husband & I (& Children) In Each Page!,
By Maria (Arizona) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honey, Are You Listening? (Minirth Meier New Life Clinic) (Paperback)
I related to this book so much that I couldn't put it down. I am a non-ADD spouse to an ADD husband and have 2 ADD children. I was looking for hope & pointers on understanding my ADD family members' view of life and how I could help strengthen our family ties. This book helped me not only understand their strengths and weakenesses, it helped me see the importance I had in their lives. I felt more empowered with each page. It helps me daily as I encounter each new situation. My husband & I were both happy to start applying the suggestions the book gave on making our lives together more fulfilling.

Best book for the non-ADD mate I've ever read!,

This review is from: Honey, Are You Listening? (Minirth Meier New Life Clinic) (Paperback)
This book gives incredible hope to the non-ADD mate. It helps you understand what causes the conflicts in the marriage and describes what you are going through as well as the difficulties that your ADD mate experiences. I bought the book early in our marriage and find that years later, it still serves as a great encouragement. Nearly every page contains a familiar scenario and a practical strategy to deal with the situation. A must read for any organized person living with with a free-spirited energetic mate!

When I read an article based on this book, I cried! Finally I had found someone who knew what I was going through. My husband is very much like the husband who wrote this book and I was relieved to realize that he is not so odd! This book saved me! "Honey, Are You Listening?" gave me hope and practical solutions for the difficulties I face with my husband. I am finally able to understand my husband and this helps me to be more patient with him. With the suggestions in this book I am able to help my husband be a better version of himself and I am able to at least try not to ask him to do things that are beyond him. I now understand the most effective way to approach him and to talk over potentially explosive subjects with him. If you feel your spouse (or an adult you know)may have ADD... please get this book!!!!! You will forever be grateful to Rick and Jerilyn Folwer! I know I am!!!!!

A Great Help!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Honey, Are You Listening? (Minirth Meier New Life Clinic) (Paperback)
In my marriage I am the spouse with ADHD. In contrast to the previous reviewer my wife and I found this book to be a great help. It helped both of us to understand my condition and according to my wife it helped her understand that I wasn't against her. In describing ADHD behavior rather than excusing it, I felt that the book gave some useful tools for change. Of course if the ADHD spouse is a jerk and unwilling to change, then that's a different story. The book is written from a Christian perspective so it was also helpful to find a Christian resource that said something more than the usual cliche's like, "just try harder"..."you should just forgive him, etc." I would recommend this book if you believe that ADD/ADHD might be affecting your marriage and you're looking for help

Not what I thought it would be.,
By Dawn S. (Philadelphia, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honey, Are You Listening? (Minirth Meier New Life Clinic) (Paperback)
I bought this book thinking it would be geared more for the spouse of an ADD person. But this book was actually more of an advice book FOR the ADD person themselves. There was a large emphasis on education; encouragment and tips to help the ADD person in continuing their education. Again, geared towards the ADD person and not the significant other/spouse on how to deal with it all.

I JUST THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WRITTING THIS BOOK. I HAVE ADHD, AND BOUGHT 2 BOOKS FOR MY CLOSE FRIENDS. NOW BEING ADHD, I AM NOT BIG ON READING, BUT MY FRIENDS SURE ARE, AND THEY FOUND IT SO HELPFUL IN RELATING TO ME, IN AN EMOTIONAL, SPIRITUAL, AND MENTAL WAY. OUR RELATIONSHIPS ARE SO MUCH BETTER OFF. THE THINGS THAT RICK AND JERILYN ADVISE IN HANDLING AND DEALING WITH THESE VERY CREATIVE, AND AT TIMES HIGH STRUNG PEOPLE, IS VERY PRACTACULE. IN RETURN I HAVE FOUND OUT SO MANY THINGS ABOUT MYSELF. I RELIZED THAT HAVING ADHD HAS MANY BENIFITS, AND I LOVE EVERYONE OF THEM.

A practical beginning,
By Sam Sagittarius "imagik" (Madison, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honey, Are You Listening? (Minirth Meier New Life Clinic) (Paperback)
The only complaint I have about this book is the interjection of Christianity but then I understand living and being married to an Adult ADHD person that you need to have power greater than yourself to look too! I appreciated this book simply because it was the first book of its kind to address how difficult it is to live and love an ADHD adult. I took what I needed from this book and left the rest. I do recommend this book since as far as I know it is still one of its kind.

Up until recently I didn't know ADD was part of my personal story. It though it was an issue for young boys living solely on a sugar diet. This book helped me see that other people share the same challenges in marriage and at work as I do and that there is hope for ADD folks like me. Dr. Rick Fowler provides useful suggestions to spouses and parents dealing with an ADD/ADHD spouse or child. Especially helpful are the tips for ADD people on how to modify behavior, structure daily activities and nurture stable relationships. Thank you Dr. Fowler for your insights and honesty about life with ADD people.

This was my first purchase on Amazon.com. Respected friends said I would not be disappointed, and they were right on. The book was advertsed as Used, in Good Condition, which when I received was indeed true. In fact, if I hadn't know better would have thought it was brand new. The ordering process was simple , had heard the sight was secure, and now would not hesitate to purchase again, if the need arises. Couldn't have been more pleased! A further note, anyone with an ADD spouse, will find this book extremely helpful. Easy to read and understand, and easy to put to use. Am so grateful for a knowledgeable friend who recommended it, it's helping tremendously, small
book, but explanations and tips ae invaluable. |
