This combustor's metal "can" has the correct wrapping flange (see photos), like on your original catalytic combustor, to hold the ceramic securely in your Vermont Castings stove. This catalytic combustor is a ceramic honeycomb coated with platinum and palladium, elements engineered to maximize the catalytic reaction. Strategically placed in the smoke path inside a wood stove, the catalytic combustor literally causes smoke to burn as fuel, creating more heat from less wood. That means a wood stove can be burned slowly, transforming most energy stored in a log to the room as heat, instead of to the outside air as pollution. Ordered Monday- unit was at the door Friday in spite of the Mid Atlantic blizzard of Feb 2010.
Unit looks just like the original Vermont Castings combustor and works just as well. I installed it immediately and am now again enjoying the double combustion heat output that the Encore stove is built to deliver. It replaces a 4 month old bargain (not from Amazon) priced ClearSkies CS-200 that never worked properly- even after returning the first bad one for exchange. I found the Amazon description confusing (mixing some text about a round unit in the description of the rectangular unit that I needed) so I called Condar and spoke to the Customer Service rep who was friendly and ensured that they shipped the right one. While not inexpensive, the Condar unit is very effective and well worth the price paid. Forget the bargains- this is the unit to buy- and it's made in the USA as well!

I recieved the catalytic combustor and first thing I noticed was it did not have the condor stamp on it. And it is not the same construction. no flanges and not as many spot welds. And it measures slightly bigger than described. (Do not buy this product) I noticed a review after I recieved it that it may not be made by Condor. I wish I saw it. This guy should Be removed From Amazon. I will try to get my money back and if i don't i will be calling Amazon!

After a good bit of research, I decided that I wanted a Condar combustor for my Vermont Castings stove. This listing was cheaper than ordering from Condar and the shipping was much better. However, what was shipped was made by another manufacturer that I wasn't familiar with. Who knows? Maybe it was as good as the Condar. Maybe it was BETTER than the Condar. The point is that it wasn't the same product that was described in the listing. They should either sell the one they list, or they should just have a generic listing that says "Catalytic Combustor, 2.5" wide x 13" long x 2" thick, made by whichever manufacturer we have in stock or get the best price from".On the bright side, the return and refund went through smoothly, though I ended up paying for the return shipping which I shouldn't be responsible for as this was the seller's error. So now I'm out most of what I was saving by ordering here instead of from the manufacturer. My advise? If you want a Condar combustor, order straight from Condar. You can actually call them on the phone if you need to.....
