1.0 out of 5 stars The worst story ever
This was one of the worst books I have ever encountered. It was so bad, I had to write this warning. The characters, the dialogue, the "drama/suspense" are all ridiculous. I don't know how this got published.

5.0 out of 5 stars Edge of your Seat - Fun Ride!, September 20, 2006
This review is from: The Honeymoon is Over (Paperback)
The Honeymoon is Over is the story of Nelson Kennard, ambitious owner of Kennard Janitorial Services. He works continuously as he wants his company to have contracts in every major city in the United States, not just San Francisco. Nelson is a competitive yet impulsive man by nature. He was drafted out of college as the #1 NBA draft pick by Philadelphia, yet he never played one professional game due to a career ending injury caused by his own stupidity.

Nelson is engaged to and in love with Parris Stalls. Parris wants money and an easy lifestyle now. One night Parris calls and ends their relationship saying she is tired of sitting at home while he works and furthermore she tells him he will never be a success. Nelson is distraught and goes to Parris' house only to find Parris in bed with a former baskeball rival, Shenandoah Armstrong.

Thus begins a story of twists, turns, and surprises at every chapter. Let me say that Nelson doesn't just get angry, he gets even...or does he? This is a perfect fictional depiction of a man's reaction to rejection by a lover and the lengths he will go to prove his lover unjustified in leaving him...or will he? This is a fun read and, as with most of Mr Johnson's books, there is thought provoking material as well. For those of you who have read Fate's Redemption, Sterling Wise is back as he is Nelson's best friend.

The Honeymoon is Over is a must read...a little mystery, a good story, an ending that will surprise you. As an added plus, after you read the book, the title will make you laugh every time you think about it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Action!, January 9, 2007
This review is from: The Honeymoon is Over (Paperback)
Author Keith Lee Johnson introduces readers to Nelson Kennard in his latest novel, The Honeymoon Is Over. Nelson is a hardworking man working at the Kennard Janitorial Service. He is engaged to Parris Stalls. At the beginning of the story, Parris calls Nelson to tell him their relationship is over. Parris has become caught up with what her girlfriends are telling her and she tells Nelson that she is sick of waiting for him to get her the things she deserves. Nelson is very hurt by Parris breaking off their engagement. He is even more hurt when he sees a rival from his past going into Parris' place. This is only the start of the drama.
The Honeymoon Is Over will take you on a roller coaster ride. This book is filled with action, drama and suspense. This read was well written and the author did a great job of developing the characters. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to others. I stayed up late into the night to find out what happened to the characters in the story. Although this is my first time reading Keith Lee Johnson's work, it will definitely not be my last.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unabashed Ignorance, October 23, 2006
By
This review is from: The Honeymoon is Over (Paperback)
Nelson Dubois Kennard, at 40-years old, is a two time divorcée. His girlfriend, Parris Stalls, of four years has greedily decided that his being broke is too much for her to continue to digest. After all, Parris is alarmingly beautiful. In fact, her splendor can afford her a man of means. Thankfully, Parris doesn't have to search hard for her rich man. Shenandoah Armstrong, Nelson's former basketball rival, has the resources that Parris desires.

While Nelson suffers through his loss, he is consoled by Grace Underwood, his banker. Grace appears to be generous, hospitable and a sacrificial spirit. Can she be his "saving" Grace?

Nelson is the driving force behind taking Kennard Janitorial Services to a new level. Now that his life is making a profit, he finds himself traveling the ladder of triumph. Is that the sweet reward he's always sought after?

Just as readers are awestruck by the why, how and what of things, Nelson finds himself again ready for love. In spite of his pruning, he is caught up in another web of lies and deceit. Will Nelson's newfound wealth and prestige keep him from misusing his power or will greed and reprisal end his chances for a new life?

THE HONEYMOON IS OVER is sheathed with commotion, infidelity, love, sex, self-indulgence and spite, all of the necessary requirements for a Keith Lee Johnson signature novel. In this reader's opinion, this is the hottest novel to date by Keith Lee Johnson. If by some coincidence, readers have yet to experience Keith's knowledge, capacity or suspense in writing, The Honeymoon is Over, is a great way to begin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love is a Mental Disorder, October 22, 2006
This review is from: The Honeymoon is Over (Paperback)
Keith Lee Johnson returns with novel number six. The Honeymoon Is Over has ties to his previous novels. This time, Johnson recounts the tale of a man scorned.

Former basketball phenom, Nelson Kennard, should be living his happily ever after. But instead, he is a jaded and bitter man after his beautiful fiancée, Parris Stalls, leaves him for another man. The other man, Shenandoah Armstrong, is a rival from Nelson's past with an unsettled grudge.

As the story progresses, Parris discovers that the grass is not always greener on the other side and has a change of heart. It's Nelson that she wants. It's Nelson that she loves. As far as she's concerned, the honeymoon isn't over yet. It hasn't even begun.

Johnson's collection (Sugar & Spice, Pretenses, Little Black Girl Lost, Fate's Redemption, Little Black Girl Lost 2) makes an ample case for his being considered one of the most talented authors out today. He writes some of the best contemporary thrillers on the market. In The Honeymoon Is Over, he seems to grasped the best elements of his previous novels and poured them into this one. It is a sure-fire read.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Do?, October 22, 2006
This review is from: The Honeymoon is Over (Paperback)
When readers meet Nelson Kennard, the central character in The Honeymoon Is Over, he's engaged to marry the love of his life. That quickly changes when his fiancee dumps him for another man. Chapter after chapter, we learn a little more about Nelson as he reflects on his past relationship and decides what to do next. Just as he comes to terms with his new status in life, his former fiancee resurfaces complicating matters when she decides she wants him back. Will Nelson take her back?

I had heard alot about this author, but this is my first time reading his work. Keith Lee Johnson vividly depicts Nelson's struggle with his loss as his emotions bounce all over the place. The Honeymoon Is Over is a very good book and I look forward to reading his others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dangerously in Love, March 14, 2007
This review is from: The Honeymoon is Over (Paperback)

I love her so much I am willing to kill us both, is what Nelson Kennard told his self when he walked in on his ex-fiancé and her new man. Not being able to take the rejection Nelson isn't sure if he is coming or going. One thing he does know is sorry is not good enough. Moving on with his life and becoming the self made millionaire that the beautiful Parris Stall's just couldn't wait for him to become takes Nelson thru one thing after the other.

This is another Keith Lee Johnson classic; I don't think anyone will be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Filled with suspense, March 6, 2007
This review is from: The Honeymoon is Over (Paperback)
THE HONEYMOON IS OVER is very maturely written. Keith Lee Johnson has found the soul of feelings and accomplished to express some deep thoughts and emotions that many of us experience at some time or other. This has prompted me to read his other novels. Keith Lee Johnson actually tells the reader how the charcters get from one point to the other and shows how human we are through his characters' indecisive behavior.
THE HONEYMOON IS OVER is definitely deep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keith Lee Johnson delivers with "Honeymoon", March 4, 2007
This review is from: The Honeymoon is Over (Paperback)
This was my first novel to read of Johnson's, so I went into it with a fresh eye and no expectations--- and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Gone were the black men we read about who's only occupation is seeing how many women they can sucker and bed. Gone are the stereotypes of black men who expect the world to take care of them because of their race and years of discrimination. With THE HONEYMOON IS OVER, Johnson delivers a one-two punch of suspense, coupled with new profiles of African American characters that are missing from so many novels today. You meet Nelson, a man who has had a checkered past but with age has learned the values of fidelity and respect--- all of which seem to be useless with his girlfriend Parris, who wants what she sees her other girlfriends having: Everything. She leaves Nelson because of his apparent neglect of her and her needs and falls victim to his long-time rival who has his own agenda. The story takes you through the emotions of a man who has been betrayed and rejected--- and shows you that love can have many consequences... the least of which include death.
