Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Honeysuckle Breeze (Audio CD)
i purchased this album because bob thiele and gabor szabo with the california dreamers albums were excellent. both were on impulse records as was honeysuckle breeze. impulse needed something to back up a young very talented soprano alto tenor sax man, also flute in tom scott; so the california dreamers were selected. this album is more about displaying scott's versatility than the music. if you like improv jazz, then this album is for you. but, if szabo's "wild sky and diamonds" with the dreamers is your forte, stay away from "honeysuckle breeze".

4.0 out of 5 stars Outta sight psychedelic west coast jazz pop!, June 20, 2011
This review is from: The Honeysuckle Breeze (Audio CD)
This recording perfectly captures the groovy west coast pop/rock scene as seen through psychedelic jazz shades! Young Tom Scott covers everything from the Beatles to Coltrane on a variety of woodwinds. Features an all-star L.A. studio band- you even get Glen Campbell on guitar! First time on CD in the U.S. The CD packaging is beautiful- a mini gate fold album design that mimics the original LP.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent, May 21, 2010
This review is from: Honeysuckle Breeze (Audio CD)
Tom Scott was a sax player who worked with Don Ellis in the 1960s, and much later, wrote the theme for the show, Family Ties.

This is light jazz with 1960s style backup singers. Scott does psudo-hip covers of the Beatles "She's Leaving Home," and "Today" by the Jefferson Airplane, jingle vocals and all.

Fun as a time piece

AMAZON. MP3? HELLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOO. Anyone home over there?
