5.0 out of 5 stars Time to Change Your HEPA Filter on Your Air Cleaner?
Before ordering a replacement HEPA filter for your Honeywell (or other brand) Air Cleaner, be sure to check the model number on the unit. This filter is for the larger of the two upright units with handles (Model 17400) and for two Enviracare Models (62500, 12520). I replace my HEPA filter every year because I am very allergic to cigarette smoke, pollens, dust, molds, and...

I purchased this filter from "Allergy Be Gone" via Amazon. It was advertised as "Genuine Honeywell True HEPA filter" but when the product arrived it was clearly made by some other company than Honeywell. And it is not of the same quality as the Honeywell HEPA filter (the Honeywell has soft rubber gaskets while the one that I received has hard plastic gaskets which makes it harder to seal the filter in the unit).

I replace my HEPA filter every year because I am very allergic to cigarette smoke, pollens, dust, molds, and other allergens and irritants. Honeywell suggests that you replace your HEPA filter every 1-3 years. Also, this HEPA filter has pre-filters which wrap around it, so you may want to order a box of those, too. The pre-filters should be changed every 3 months.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!!!!!!!!!, February 5, 2004
This review is from: Honeywell 22500 Hepa Replacement Filter (Kitchen)
This item does not come from Amazon. It also does not come from Office Depot as calimed in the ad. It comes from Tech Depot - an Office Depot Company.

What is hidden from you here is that this ITEM IS NON-REFUNDABLE.
Even if it is still sealed in the package - Tech Depot will not take it back.

So make sure you have the correct filter, and forget about the claim that Amazon and Tech Depot want to make sure your shopping experience is a good one and that you are satisfied. And good luck in finding a customer service phone number.

THIS FILTER IS NOT MADE BY HONEYWELL!!! THIS IS AN AFTERMARKET FILTER!!!

Keeping that in mind, the filter is ok. I have no way of determining if the filter is better or worse than the Honeywell one. Buyer Beware!

Yes, the 22500 does work great, but for less you can get 2 HRF-14s (Honeywell enviracaire UNIVERSAL REPLACEMENT TRUE HELP FILTER) to do the same job...

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't tell, August 6, 2010

Well, here's one more modern product that the layman has little way to positively determine the effectiveness of.
OK it's certified HEPA, capturing teeny tiny particles down to a size that I can't see.
The air seems cleaner, but is that just subjective wishful thinking on my part?
My nose seems to run less and my chest seems clearer, but I have no way of objectively measuring those parametere.
It does well for my peace of mind and I just take it on faith that it's doing it's job as effectively as claimed.
Now the PRE filter- well I can see the crud and dust that accumulates there.
But in the 10 or so years that I have used the filtration unit that houses this filter, I have not seen any dust or particles embedded in the vanes, like I can see on my automotive air filter.
OK.
That said, at the end of the day, it gives me peace of mind to know that this reasonably priced replacement filter is at work to do what it says it does and contributing to preventing respiratory distress and illness of me and my family.
I wouldn't be without it!

After reading some of the other reviews, I was somewhat concerned when ordering as it seemed as if this will be an after market item and some had issues with the size of the filter that did not match the HEPA machine.
The item that I received fit perfectly unto a Honeywell 17440, and is working well for about a month now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Deal on these!, December 7, 2003

As Honeywell produces these Air Cleaners and Filters for Sears, under the Sears brand name, cross referencing the units back to their Honeywell filter numbers can result in a great savings on expensive replacement HEPA filters and pre-filters.

We have one unit downstairs and another upstairs and realized a definite improvement in dust and other particulate deposits on the furniture. The air quality within the home is much better and, with a newborn in the home, it really does make a difference.

Pick these units up here for a definite cost savings over the exact same unit at your local Sears store. The airflow design, which is a change from the original Honeywell air cleaners, results in a much quieter unit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a proper fit, February 19, 2010

Last time I got one of the non-Honeywell filters, it was too big and stuck out the side a bit, but it functioned fine. This time the one from Filters-Now was a bit too short, and it did not fit tight with the side plate causing a loud whistling noise. I added a couple of washers under the tightening knob so that the side plate would fit tight to eliminate the noise. It works fine after this 'adjustment'.
