Customer Reviews

As other people have stated, their firmware updates have broken the remote access feature.

If you can wait I would as I am sure with more and more companies getting into Home Automation and with the competition, might push Honeywell to do better.

I was told by the technician that Honeywell will not allow you to have internet control ONLY if through the alarm company.

We replaced our home security system in January 2013. This included a Vista 20p control panel, one Honeywell 6280i Tuxedo Touch Z-Wave (Ethernet) keypad, two Honeywell 6280w keypads (connected to our security system but no access to home network) on our two lower floors, one 6160RF keypad (by the control panel for programming), and an AL624 Auxiliary Power Supply board (and backup battery) in the Vista control panel for the additional power required by the graphic touch keypads. Since we replaced our previous eighteen year old security system, we have never been happier.

We installed the Tuxedo Touch keypad in our master bedroom which is hard-wired to our security system, and home network via Cat-6 Ethernet cable so we can check local weather as we leave our bedroom in the morning. We use this keypad as our Z-Wave Controller. We installed a front door IP dome camera accessible through this keypad as we have experienced a few late night visitors and prefer to see them before going to our front door. We later installed a Honeywell Thermostat (YTH8320ZW1007) connected via Z-Wave to the Tuxedo Touch keypad. We have now installed five other Z-Wave modules controlling interior lamps and exterior porch lights replacing manual timers which required resetting with each power outage. Interestingly, the day after we installed the first Z-Wave timer (GE 45609), we lost power for two hours. When power was restored, the timers were instantly set to current time through the Z-Wave Controller (Honeywell Tuxedo keypad).

Our three 6280 keypads are sleek looking and the white frame match our woodwork. The color graphics are exceptional and the menu-based icons are easy to learn. The Keypad Annunciation feature is invaluable with voice confirmation for each security setting you perform.

So my front door is basically all glass. My wife doesn't like to answer it when she is home alone and doesn't know who is at the door. The only problem is in order for her to see who's at the door they can see her. I solved this by installing a nice Sony low profile dome camera above the door but then the problem was that she had to log on the computer to check each time she wanted to see. This was slow and time consuming so I did some research and came up with this keypad. It had the built in ability to show IP based security cameras that support RTSP on the screen. I have a Vista 20p security system and this was compatible so it was a win/win.

I read reviews around the internet and I saw the negative reviews on here about the weather not working... then I also researched and found there was an update available to correct it. So, I bought two of the keypads. One for our den and one for our master bedroom. The firmware upgrade corrected the weather and once I got the camera setup correctly the keypad works great for quickly viewing the camera.

All in all I have had zero problems with the keypad. I don't rely on it for my daily weather... that's what I use my iPhone for... so I can't really say anything other than it does display the weather for my zip code and every time I've looked at the screen it appeared to be correct.

When I hooked it up the only thing I had to do was unscrew the wires from my 6160 keypad and screw them into this.. and also plug in an Ethernet cable. There was no special programming required and I would say the entire install only took about 20 minutes...

The only negative thing I have experienced with this keypad though has been that it will not chime when the door's open. If I log into the "security menu" then it will chime..

If you consider the first iPhone came out in 2007 the Tuxedo Touch is far behind. I can understand that the TUXEDO is interfacing with an analogue system such as my VISTA20p but the user interface on the TUXEDO should be intuitive, customizable and easy. I think the TUXEDO has a lot of potential but I would still wait for the software to mature.

Cons;

- cannot custom label zones such as zone 1 - bathroom window, come on...this is a $400 device and you can edit zones ? (maybe in total connect 2.0 but that will cost you $10 a month)
- unit supports Canadian weather but does NOT show Celsius only fahrenheit
- firmware hasn't been upgraded for close to a year (June 23 2013 V4.4.31L)
- honeywell support only limited to dealers and not to END users, they need to listen to their end users !
- be able to easily customize ZONE BY PASSES

Pros

- able to visually see zones that are open and select bypass ALL key.
- system is fast especially when arming via smartphone
- no monthly fees to arm and disarm system remotely but interface is basic.

FINAL COMMENTS; if I was installing a new system and needed to remotely arm and disarm the system I would go for the TUXEDO. If you can wait I would as I am sure with more and more companies getting into Home Automation and with the competition, might push Honeywell to do better. It annoys me to know that there hasn't been a firmware upgrade for a year. Honeywell should be listening to their end users comments and not installers. My installer didn't even own the TUXEDO touch.
