Be careful when ordering this Item. I was shopping for a programmable thermostat when I ran across this item. I thought it would be great to see the outside temperature displayed when checking my thermostat. I purchased a Honeywell RTH8500D thermostat to use with this sensor. The thermostat was on sale and the Amazon web page for the sensor indicated it would work with the thermostat. I copied and pasted part of the technical details from the web page for the sensor below:

"Technical Details: Outdoor temperature for display on the T8600 or T8500 family thermostats."

Or link to the page: Honeywell C7089U1006 Outdoor Temperature Sensor [Misc.]

After receiving, programming and starting the installation process, I discovered the sensor would not work with the thermostat. The thermostat sub-base lacks the terminals required to connect the sensor wires. I downloaded additional installation instructions and discovered a TH8320U1008 VISION PRO 8000 thermostat is required for the sensor feature. I returned to the sensor web page and noticed the reference to the VISION PRO thermostat was listed. Trouble is it also advises it works with the T8500 family thermostats. It does not. I returned the thermostat to Amazon and ordered the correct unit. However it costs more and Honeywell won't warranty it unless it's installed by a PRO. They don't define what a PRO is. Anyway it's very easy to configure, install and program. The creature's been operational for several weeks now and I'm pleased with It's performance. Amazon treated me very fairly with this issue, but the error is still on the Amazon web page for the sensor.

Really appreciate the chart with the resistance/temp values. Leads are too short, though, and will not fit into the S1/S2 terminal blocks on the Honeywell 8000 series thermostats without stripping away some of the strands to make the conductor pack thinner. Overall, though a quality product.

I checked resistance out of the box against reference temperatures and calibration was off by 1-3 deg. C. The error is not linear, below -20C it reads 1-2 deg C colder and above zero it is reading 1-2 deg warmer. It not cost effective to return it because the refund of canadian inport duty and taxes is a hassel.

The Honeywell C7089U1006 Outdoor Temperature Sensor was easy to hook up and install, but a little more $$ than I really should have paid, I put this in when I installed the new programmable thermostat. Now I have a reference to the outside temp at the thermostat. I don't know if they make a compatible cordless remote, which would be easier, but this one, so far seems accurate and operable. Plan on splicing the contact lines, however, as the leads are only 6 feet long

I decided to do a addon to my TH8320U1008 VISION PRO 8000. I got tired of looking at the small thermometer outside.
I did a little planning on the cable run to the outside using a 25ft 18/2 thermostat wire I picked up a 12" 3/16 drill bit and drilled
through the sheet rock, then through the floor wall stud to the crawl space. (just below the thermostat). I pulled the wire with some kite string. (two person job)
I hooked up the wire to S1 and S2 of the stat and programed the stat 340 to 1. The stat now displays the outside temp.
If your using Auto mode for this stat. It won't show the outside temp for this model. You have to use mode cool or heat and it
displays it in the lower right hand corner of the stat. I'm glad, I went and added the outside temp sensor. Works great !

Off course one wouldn't expect to have enough wire to reach the thermostat, but in many cases there won't be enough wire to go through the wall when mounting on soffit, forcing you to splice the wire outdoor, which is both a pain (at the top of a ladder) and unaesthetic.

This is a must have for the IAQ thermostat. It's easy to install and accurate. If not for the price it would be rated a 5 .
