5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Thermostat
I have been using one of these to control a wood furnace for several years now, and there is simply nothing better for the job. 2.0 out of 5 stars Stopped Working After 2 Years
The title pretty much sums it up. After less than two years, the thermostat would only sometimes kick on when it's supposed to. This is unacceptable. I would have given the product 5 stars otherwise.

I have been using one of these to control a wood furnace for several years now, and there is simply nothing better for the job. Prior to this I had tried several other thermostats including a standard Honeywell Round, but none of them controlled the furnace with any accuracy at all (2-4 degree temp swing). This thermostat with it's excellent 'Heat Anticipator' Circuit controls the wood furnace with no more than a 1 degree of temperature swing (unless you over-fire it of course). I am getting ready to install electric radiant floor heat on an inclosed porch, and this is the only thermostat that I am even considering using.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an easy to install digital thermostat, January 9, 2009

This review is from: Honeywell CT8775A1007 Digital Round Thermostat (Tools & Home Improvement)
My review is of the Honeywell CT8775A1007 thermostat.

This is a digital device which works very much like a traditional analog thermostat. Some posts have mentioned a need to keep track of wires. I don't see how that could be much of a problem.

Install was straight forward, turn off the furnace, remove the old thermostat. Separate the new thermostat into it's 3 component pieces (they snap together and snap apart). Mount the wall piece to the wall with the included screws. The biggest problem was not letting the thermostat wires fall into the wall.

This unit has two electrical connections only. They are labeled R and W. My old thermostat had a red and white wire going to it, with a spare unused green wire which was not stripped.

I detached the red and white wires from the old thermostat, and attached the red wire to the R terminal of this thermostat, then did the same with the white wire to the W terminal.

After it was wired, the 3 sections of this thermostat needed to be snapped into place.

The furnace was then powered on, and the function of the thermostat was verified.

It works fine with my heat only hot water valve controlled baseboard system.

Backlights only come on when the unit is touched, when backlit it is easy to read in the dark. Without the backlight on, there needs to be good ambient lighting.

Setting is simple, turn the outside case to and adjust the set temperature. After a few seconds of not moving the dial, the thermostat reads the rooms temperature.

It was shipped with instructions in English and Spanish. The instructions were clear enough, but were for more than one model. This model is for heat only, and is very easy to wire. Most of the instructions were for the more advanced model which can control fans and air conditioning.

Bought this a month ago and am very happy with its precise, consistent temperature control.

I would have given it 5 stars if not for its instructions which were hardly on a par with the unit itself.

I bought it to replace its corporate predecessor, a round Honeywell analog heat-only thermostat.

The instructions centered on keeping track of which wire is connected to which letter-coded terminal on the old unit and connecting likewise on the new unit. They even provided coded tags to attach to your wires.

Sounds great. . . except my old Honeywell has no lettering of any kind on any terminals. There were just two brown wires connected to two unlabeled terminals.

My upgrade must have been one of the common for this unit. . . old round Honeywell for new round Honeywell. But, somehow, Honeywell left me stranded, instruction-wise.

I finally went with my gut instinct and, fortunately, all worked out.

Summary: great thermostat; lousy instructions.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad - not great, August 3, 2007
This review is from: Honeywell CT8775A1007 Digital Round Thermostat (Tools & Home Improvement)
It's ok. I don't like the 15 minute delay when you turn it on though. Plus you can't see the dispay for the inside temperature unless you turn it on. I hate that. I use it for AC and don't want to turn on the AC and close the windows unless the temperature dictates.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good tight control, but ............., June 15, 2010

I really like this thermostat, as it is very quiet in operation, and keeps the temp exactly what you set it.

That said, we replace ours once a year because it starts acting "flakey". Sometimes the air conditioner comes on and will not turn off, or the thermometer reads incorrectly. Just weird things like that. But I keep buying them for want of a good alternative.

We tried a White brand once, but it made a loud clicking noise every time the furnace cycled on or off. That was annoying.

If anyone knows of a brand the keeps the temp within a degree or two, and is quiet, I would like to know of it. Please post a comment and I'll see it. Thanks.

The thermostat is easy to install, easy to use, easy to see the temperature setting. Had some problem with the voltage from the furnace and Honeywell 800- service provided good assistance in diagnosing the problem. Delivery by "Denny and Kathy's Ace Hardware" (through Amazon) was quick.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice design; the click wheel feels good, September 26, 2008
This review is from: Honeywell CT8775A1007 Digital Round Thermostat (Tools & Home Improvement)
The house I bought has one of these in it. I didn't install it or have the directions. (I haven't tried looking online yet.) The feel of the outer ring is nice... it gently (silently) clicks in your hand as you spin it. The display is bright. It's easy to tell wether you're looking at the room temperature or your target temp... there's a little black dot next to either the word "room" or "set". It's true that you can't see the set/target temp until you twist the ring, but I don't think it changes the setting until after the display lights up and shows you the current setting. Also it doesn't feel cheap like the manual round version (T87K) which has harder plastic and sharper edges.
