If you are using a Honeywell humidifier or any humidifier that uses a paper filter, you NEED to get these! I was even using filtered water for my humidifiers and, STILL, the filters were turning YELLOW in less than a month. I purchased the Protec Antimicrobial cartridges, and all growth has come to a STOP! I should have used them from the beginning, but I thought that by using filtered water everything should be fine...WRONG! Spend the extra few bucks and save yourself from Mold in your air and bad smells, it is truly worth it.

Cartridges indeed help to keep humidifiers clean longer. (Used with Crane animal shape cool mist humidifier.)

These little things do a great job of keeping bacteria, etc from growing in my humidifier. I have been using my humidifier daily for 8 months, and these have really cut down on the number of times that I have to clean the tank. I usually buy them at my retail giant store for much less, but they don't seem to carry them during the summer. I was willing to pay a little more this time just because I've gotten used to the convenience.
