I did a lot of research before purchasing this unit after our 18 year old warm mist Duracraft humidifier failed this year. There are not many warm mist units available on the market for some reason. This unit, on the high setting, raised the humidty in a large 12' x 14' room from less than 20% to over 30% in one day.
Pros:
Warm mist, no white dust like the ultrasonic or cool mist humidifers
Fairly quiet, can be used in a bedroom. Sound is equivalent to a desk fan set to low speed.
Easy to fill, just use a pitcher and fill from the top opening on the right side.
One piece shell, so no danger of leaks from poor seals or glue joints.
As advertised, runs for about a day on the lower setting on one fill.
Cons:
Heating element sits in a well making cleaning access diffiicult. I used an old toothbrush which works. Also, a cleaning tip is to use the more concentrated "household cleaning vinegar" rather than the standard cooking vinegar.
Not easy to carry when full - no handle or easy grip surface. Run it to almost empty before attempting to carry to another location.

January 6, 2014 Update:
A few issues came up after I cleaned the unit:
Make sure that the red float in the heating chamber is pushed all the way down. I didn't and water leaked from the rear vents onto the floor after I refilled the unit.
The humidistat becomes very erratic after cleaning - I have to turn it to max before the unit starts and then readjust to the proper setting an hour later.
If the unit runs dry, a red light comes on. You have to unplug the unit and wait about 20 minutes (after the water refill) before it starts again.

I bought this at Wal-Mart because they have an excellent return policy. (I buy a lot of things there because of that). I live in a city and have a on-the-tap water purifier that I only used for drinking water because of the calcium, iron, etc. I didn't think I'd need it for this humidifier because I never needed it for my last one. Anyway my 1st one worked for less than a week and I was not happy because of such a short time period, but took it back to Wal-Mart and got a new one. Low and behold this one worked all winter except for the last two months or so. Tried all kinds of things (except taking it apart because at first glance it looked almost impossible and nothing in the enclosed instructions on disassembly AT ALL) which kind of worked at first but then got worse and worse until it just totally failed. I figured, oh well it was cheap and lasted a good chunk of time so I'll just deal with it. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when I saw this commercial for CLR (which they also sell there). Figured I'd give it a shot. Opened up the unit, put my glasses on, and saw this little red spring loaded lever with 2 phillips screws holding the cone assembly in. Don't waste any time with the screws. Just reach down in, and pull the lever back. The cone assembly comes in 2 pieces, top and bottom. To take the top off you'll need to keep holding the lever back and then turn the top assembly because there are 2 tabs that need to be moved (by rotating it) before it can be lifted up. Next, the bottom part, this is where it got very interesting. I thought it was fused in somehow at first, but it wasn't. You just have to keep prying on it and it will break loose and come out. Folks, in that area underneath there was at LEAST a half cup of hard calcium/lime buildup blocking the water flow!!Read more ›

Don't waste your money. This good-looking, lightweight unit worked like a charm: for 5 weeks. Then it started to leak all over the floor. There is a design problem that you will not see immediately-- the water in the reservoir is held by back a small plastic stopper. At some point, it is not strong enough to hold up against the pressure of the water you have poured in to fill the reservoir. When it gives way, water rushes into the next chamber, where the intake for the humidifier unit sits. That wall has narrow openings/slits close to the bottom, and that is where the water gets out. Amazon's return runs out after 30 days. The manufacturer states they will fix it for $25, plus you are stuck with the price of postage. Clearly not worth it for a $50 unit-- who wants to get a replacement for a design that is defective to begin with? Next time, I will investigate warranties. A sadly familiar story--poor products and little consumer redress. I wish Amazon could use their muscle to do something about this. HONEYWELL, this was a black eye. Listen up: I would gladly pay twice the price for this type of unit IF YOU WOULD STAND BEHIND YOUR PRODUCTS WITH GOOD TESTING AND A CONSUMER-FRIENDLY ATTITUDE.

TL;DR: The humidistat doesn't work. Otherwise I would have loved this humidifier, if you don't mind the relatively high wattage.

Longer version:

I wanted to love this humidifier. It was nearly perfect. It's a warm-mist vaporizer humidifier, meaning it boils the water to create steam. The major con to this is that it's energy intensive, but if you don't mind that, everything else makes them (in my opinion) the best:

- They don't create white dust like ultrasonic humidifiers do. (Eww, disgusting!) This is huge.
- They usually have a much higher output compared to cool mist evaporative humidifiers. This one was often able to drench my room with humidity, even on the low setting. Thus I rarely used the 400W high setting. The output is so high that I can also just turn it on when I get home at night, and the room's humidity will quickly increase. Thus the electricity usage really isn't that bad in my case. I can handle $0.12/kWh * ~.2kW * 12 hours/day * 31 days/month ~= $9/month it costs to run this thing.
- They don't get bacterial buildup.
- They don't need filters.
- They're quiet. Not SILENT like an ultrasonic humidifier, but not bad at all compared to evaporative humidifiers that often have loud fans when on the high setting. (And this one probably has the same output on "low" as evaporative humidifiers have on the noisy "high" setting.) As someone else said, it sounds just like you're boiling a pot of water on the stove. (Which only makes sense... because that's what's happening. I actually like the subtle warm white noise.)

I like this model in particular because you can easily pour more water into it without having to detach some awkward tank like so many others use.
