Growing up in smoggy LA County, CA, I've been obsessed with air quality since high school. I'm now 34. I've tried all types of air purifiers, including ones by Holmes, Ionic Pro, and the most expensive one by Austin, which cost me about $400. However, I never noticed a significant difference in air quality in the room.

I was amazed by how fresh the air smelled after turning on the Honeywell 50101 in just a few minutes! I did not experience this with the other machines. I now recommend this to all my friends, especially those whose kids have asthma. The product claims to be the #1 choice of physicians, and I don't think they're exaggerating.

I can't believe it only cost me $90 from Walmart. The filters are also inexpensive and the main filter lasts 3 to 5 years with normal usage. Unbelievable deal. I regret wasting money in the past. Wish I had known about this product sooner.

We recently purchased two of these filters after seeing them at a friend's home. We put one in each of our daughter's rooms (ages 1.5 and 4) for air purification and white noise. Our girls had been suffering with runny noses due to allergies for about 3 weeks before we received the filter. After we used the filter for just a couple of days they were no longer suffering with the runny noses, etc from the allergies! Also, although we are in a new home, one of my daughter's rooms had a "musty" smell to it often because her room has less air circulation. Since we have had the filters running we no longer have that smell.

We run the filters 24/7 as per the instructions. We run the filters on low and the white noise is excellent for noise reduction from the rest of the house while the girls are sleeping. Several years ago we had also purchased the Sharper Image filters and were unsatisfied with the results. Especially after spending a lot of money. The same cannot be said of this filter, we HIGHLY recommend this filter!

It does a great job at filtering the air. My room smells so fresh and clean now, and the dust level has basically went to zero.
Yes, I did read some reviews that said it was loud.... But I figured / hoped they were just being nitpicky. Unfortunately, that was not the case :( This thing is really loud ! Okay, yes, it's kind of a soft whishy, windy noise (white noise ?) but it is loud, none the less. So much so, that I have to listen to my TV 2 to 3 clicks louder than I normally would, just to drown it out.

Honestly though, I can't imagine another air purifier doing as good a job, moving the same amount of air, without being just as loud. I really feel it's just the nature of the beast. You want clean air ? It will cost you some noise.

I've considered some sort of motion switch, so that when I'm in my room, and moving around, it will automatically shut off. But when I'm gone, or sleeping, it will run.... Don't know if it's worth the hassle though. I'm getting used to it...... Kind of.

I bought this unit for my dog Joey. He's a Katrina rescue & his lungs/throat were
damaged from the flood water. The slightist irritation will start him coughing but the minute I let him outside he stops coughing, so I know it's something inside and there's plenty of stuff it could be because this is a Locksmith shop.
It took a few days but his cough got better until finally,it's been about a month, it's gone completely. I know it's the unit because about 2 weeks ago he did
start coughing again but stopped as soon as I changed the filter.
I waited until I got my electric bill to write this review. I run the unit on low 24/7 and the bill is no different then before I had it...that's why i gave it five stars...it's worth every penny.

Was looking for an air purifier. This type Honeywell seems to be the benchmark in portable air purifiers. Looking around this seems to be the best price. Not all that happy with shopnbc. Their shipping policy does not match what customer service said to me. I have a bad problem with my post office. Customer service was correct and honest. It ended up shipped UPS. Although customer service clumsily avoided responsibility. I am overall happy with the purchase.
I use this air purifier with another sister unit in a one bedroom apartment. One in the bedroom, one in the living room. Figured this was better than buying one larger one. It is working out great. I like these things better than I thought I would. Usually run them on low. Yes they do make noise. I have no problem with a constant noise when sleeping. It is changes in noise that disturb me. Besides, the one in the bedroom I set against the adjoining wall to provide white noise against the neighbor. So it helps in that regard also. They still aren't very noisy. Easy to sleep with one in the bedroom.
I would buy from here before others due to price. Quick good shipping in spite of their published shipping policy. $6.99 shipping through UPS? That's a great deal.

Should have gotten this air purifier sooner. I'm in a 580sq foot batchlor, and the guy below me smokes. for 2 years I have thought about getting a unit like this. Well I finally got one, and though it's recommenced for a smaller space, 16 hrs later and on full spin.... my apartment is nice! The air is noticeably cleaner, fresher smelling. No more smoke smell, and I woke up not stuffed up.

I definitely see me getting a big more powerful unit in the future. So it you are reading this and hesitating lol, stop and get it !!

The Unit has 3 settings: Purr like a loud kitten, Roar like a lion, and WHAT?!?!? I can't hear you!

So, in case you were wondering about the reviews that discuss this unit not being very quiet... they are extremely accurate. However, other than that, it does deliver the goods. Very clean air, easier breathing for me, my wife and 2 yr old daughter. One last note, it does produce high velocity cool air out through the top when it is running and is a bit chilly to be near when you're already cold. On a positive note, I live in PHX and am looking forward to this baby when it's 117 outside!

I was concerned that this air purifier would be too small to work but after reading the other reviews I decided to give it a try. It's not very noisy, more like white noise. I had been having breathing and coughing issues, went back and forth to the dr. for different medicines but nothing worked - until I plugged this in and in about two days all my symptoms went away. I don't know if I developed allergies or maybe some bad air in my house from a hot, wet summer, but this did the trick.

Every Spring I suffer from allergies, like most people. I get so stuffed up in my nose that I can't breathe and have to go get a steroid prescription from my doctor. So I bought this hoping it would help prevent that. I've been running it every night before I go to bed and sometimes the whole night once it started getting warm here in the Northeast. I'm not congested at all, or even sneezing, and I don't need Claritan. I see all my friends on Facebook complaining about their allergies, and for the first time in years I'm not one of those people. This thing works and it is absolutely worth the money, don't get a cheap one and don't spend more than this one costs. It is loud, but I sleep with a fan anyway and I live in a city so I like the noise.

While I agree with everyone else about how well this unit seems to work (I haven't tried any others out there), I find it incredibly loud, even on the lowest setting. Although you can sleep with the white noise, I worry that I won't hear my kids or other things going on, with all this background noise. Also, it blows air quite strongly, even on the lowest setting, which is great for cleaning the air, but which makes me feel cold at night, even if I turn up the heat. So, I often will turn it off completely at night but leave it running during the day in the bedroom. Wish they made one with an even lower setting to avoid these issues.
