Honeywell HC-14 Replacement Filter for Holmes Cool Moisture Humidifier

Having 2 of the HCM-6009 humidifiers, I use alot of these filters each season. Lesson learned, stock up on them BEFORE Fall with they are about $8 each as they are now charging a ridiculous price of $26. Up until a week ago, Home Depot had them online for $7.98, they have since doubled to $14.

SOLUTION: Just got home from Walmart and while I was there I was looking for the HC14 filter. Only kind they carried were Sunbeam filters, but I started looking at a particular one that looked identical to the HC14 in size and design; Sunbeam SF221PDQ-UM Humidifier Filter. Picked one up and just got home to try it and it works. Exact same size for only $10.

This Replacement filter works perfectly on my Honeywell HCM-6000. I found that the filter will last longer if you flip it every other water fill up. This will not allow any one side to stay in the water too long and turn sour.

This is a genuine Honeywell filter designed to be used with the 11 gallon Honeywell QuietCare Humidifier (Model HCM-6013i). It's just perfect.

The box reports that this filter is compatible with the following humidifiers:

Honeywell series HCM-6000
Holmes series HM3500 and HM3600

Replacement filter works well. Tends to form a bit of mold and musty smell if left sitting in water while humidifier is not running. I suggest always running your humidifier completely out of water before shutting it off.

For now, I'm giving this 2 stars because it is not a Honeywell filter. According to the box this is a "BestAir Extended Life Humidi*Wick Filter" that is compatible as a generic replacement for the HC-14.

I felt a little "bait and switched" because the title of this product implies this is a Honeywell product. It's not.

I've got 3 of these so I'll run through these and then update my rating.

UPDATE: Feb. 2009

I've now run through 3 of these filters. Don't let the earlier (2006, 2007) positive reviews of this filter fool you. It's far inferior to the genuine HC-14 filter with the blue outer covering. My humidifier was constantly running the entire 3 months I was using these filters. The humidifier could never reach or maintain my desired humidity level. Last week when I switched to the genuine filter not only did it reach my desired humidity level (40-45%) - it only needs to switch on half the time to maintain that level.

The difference in efficiency is astonishing.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a vendor on Amazon selling the genuine filter. I needed to do a web search to find the product.

Is this a 3-pack now? If so, the description doesn't say so.

If NOT, I'd love to know what justifies a >300% increase in the price of this thing since May of this year. Last time I bought one here it was a whopping $8 and change.

Meanwhile, iAllergy.com sells these in bulk now for less than half this price.

I mean, this is a great filter and even with our not-so-great city water it works hard and lasts pretty well. But I have to wonder if someone went on Oprah and scared everyone about dry air or something. Can't think of any conceivable excuse for this sort of price increase in only 6 mos.

These replacement filters are great. They have a handle built in to keep your hands dry when removing from humidifier. The Air Washing layer is very good at catching dirt and pet hair that would get into the evaporation wick and shorten the life of the filter. This is well put together so that it stays upright even when it is wet instead of collapsing like other filters do.

This is the best price for this filter. It is not white as pictured, it is the one with the blue on the outside. Works fine for me. I replace it about once a month.

Honeywell humidifier is one of very few devices that can pump several gallons of water into the air to humidify the whole house. 9 gallons a day is what Honeywell advertises. It does its job but at a price that Honeywell does not advertise.

What the manufacture does not warn you about is that HC-14 filter lasts 2 months (at least in Northern Virginia) . By the end of the second month one can pump maybe 2 gallons a day. I never had a filter that lasted 3 months (and, yes, I perform the prescribed maintenance).

Thus, if you want to use Honeywell QuietCare humidifier be prepared to shell out around $10-15 per months on replacement filters and ProTech cartridges.

the item in 2 days. No problems whatsoever.
