Works for me,

I have had this unit for almost two months now. It is quiet, mist is not visible and does not wet any surfaces around the unit. I use filtered water only so thus far I notice that the filter inside the unit is still white.
My home has baseboard heating so it does get pretty dry in the winter months. I have noticed that the unit has helped me since I do not have the itchy nose and dry eyes syndrome! Static electricity seems to have been reduced as well. This is telling me that the unit is doing the job it is meant for. I purchased this unit on impulse from Wally's World (gasp, yes Wally World has infiltrated LI as well) since the unit was substantially priced lower. Free shipping and no tax and the great prior purchase experiences from Amazon.com is also a good reason to recommend this product to be purchased from Amazon.com Update 11/25/08 With the second winter season upon us I am reporting that this unit worked without any issues last year and hope for similar performance. The shape (nice sloped design) of the tank needs attention when it is being filled with water so it does not slip from your hands and wind up crashing to the floor. I used filtered water and had no mineral deposit or mold issues at all. Thus far this season I found the best prices for the filter (9 change) and cartridges (6 change) at Targ*t.

I had the right space for this unit - After a 2 month trial with my first unit I bought a second one and my neighbor just bought his second one - of this same unit. Our discussion went as follows:
The only thing that bothers us on it is that you can NOT direct the air flow. You have to position the unit and have a shelf just the right height to blow the moist air where you want it to go. But it was not enough of a deterent to stop us both from buying two units ea. We recommend you have it in a mid to large room, the air flow even on low creates quite a draft you would not want pointed on you, well, maybe come summer time. We also like the air filtering aspect, when I changed the filter, it proves itself, lots of dust collects on the filter, I do wish they had a reusable filter because at $10 a pop we tend to let them go a bit longer than they should. What truly sold me on my first unit was the fact it was Black, who wants to enter a nice home or office to see a big white icon glaring at you! This black streamline design fits in with any decor nicely with style.

I purchased this humidifier after mine died. It was basically the same model but had the 4 gallon water tank. I'd had the last humidifier for almost 3 years and ran it constantly on the highest setting for 5 or 6 months out of the year. The 4 gallon reservoir off of my old model fit the new model, which made me glad, as I agree the 3 gallon reservior design leaves much to be desired. This model is significantly quiter than my last. It does still make a bit of noise, but not so much that it bothers me. The nicer and thicker filter with the blue fabric wrap is a much better filter than the ones I purchase at the local mega mart. However, the thinner filters are much cheaper. Though the larger model would be more convienient as I would not have to fill the tank two times daily, I was being frugal and purchased this model. All in all, this is a decent humidifier for the price.

This is a decent, inexpensive product, and I recommend it. Downside is the reservoir is a little small, and the controls are not very good. Still, it's fine, and keeps my room at a nice level of humidity.

I was surprised to see the negative review on this unit. I have had this unit for the past month and it works as advertised. The unit provides decent moisture, is very quiet and takes a lot of dust out of the air. The only concern might be long term costs due to the consumables ( Air Filters, Protec Cartridges)but over all I'm pretty satisfied with the Honeywell HCM-631.

Very happy with this humidifier,

It looks great, is very quiet, and the filter seems to be lasting a lot longer than my last humidifier. It also monitors the humidity in the room and shuts off automatically when it's reached your setting.

We have had very good results increasing the humidity in our home with this unit using the lowest settings. It has increased moisture and noticeably reduced the dust. The only negative is filling this unit is awkward due to the shape of the tank. I would definitely recommend this unit to others.

It's relatively quiet, but it doesn't hold a lot of water. The humidity control works well, but it doesn't let you set it at, say, 50 percent. You have to turn the humidity control all the way up and then, when it gets to the desired level, you turn the humidity control down until the unit turns off. I have my unit positioned in between the living room and the kitchen. It's set at 40 percent and I have to fill the unit three times a day. Cleaning isn't too hard... just follow the instructions.

This is the quietest humidifier I've ever owned...even with the fan on it's highest setting. It's also a very attractive unit (no more white elephant!). We primarily use a wood stove for heating our home, and this humidifier has made a big difference in the comfort level of this dry heat source. It was worth spending a few more dollars on something that's so important to the heath of my family (and our furniture).

Needed small but half way decent humidifier's for 2 rooms, these were perfect size and decent capacity of water. Only issue is that one of the humidifier's has a problem, once it is out of water it does not shut off, will run without water. Other than that, very modern looking and working well.
