From the Manufacturer

Put an end to desert-like air in your home. The average humidity in the Sahara Desert is 25 percent. In wintertime, the average humidity inside some homes can be even lower, leading to dry skin, carpet shock, cracking woodwork and more. Reliable Honeywell Whole-House Humidifiers work with your homes furnace to maintain a proper, comfortable humidity level throughout the home.

Before installing this, I was filling my portable humidifier every day, but the humidity in my house (1,425 sq ft) was around 16%. Now it's around 35%, which is lower than I'd like, but due to the cold temperatures outside, if I raise it any higher I get major condensation on the windows. My furnace is in a small closet with limited access, so it took me nearly 4 hours to install. If the furnace was in an open area (like a basement), I could have installed it in about 2 hours. It's not hard to install, it's just a pain cutting through the metal ducting.

Note: This only comes with the humidistat and the transformer, so you'll either need to also buy the install kit or purchase everything else separately. Since my furnace required the sail switch, I just bought the install kit.

A few notes/recommendations:
1. The cutout template for the humidifier is on the actual instructions. My humidifier also came with the instructions for HE260A, so make sure you don't use that template.
2. The instructions that come with the humidifier are terrible. The instructions that come with the install kit are good. If you choose to not buy the install kit and purchase the parts yourself (and save $20-$30), get the instructions that come with the install kit at [...].
3. Even if you have a smaller house like mine, if your ducting is large enough (mine wasn't), spend $15 more and get the HE260A. My house is insulated very well, so the furnace doesn't run much. The HE260A will get more water in the air in a shorter amount of time.

Make sure to buy the installation kit. This kit is more for the do-it-yourself kind of person. It took me about 2-3 hours to install, wasn't too hard. My house used to have less then %15 humidity in the winter, now I'm always at %50. My house is about 1900sq ft. It makes the winters much more comfortable.

One of the best purchases I've ever made. I had this unit professionally install two weeks ago. The day after it was installed the humidity level in my house had risen from a very uncomfortable 15% to an extremely pleasant 50%.

I stopped get nose bleeds, my skin stopped itching, my hair looks fuller, and my dog stopped chewing on her back side, her hair has even grown back. Also, my hardwood flooring was getting gaps in it from drying out, that too has reversed.

This humidifier has done more to improve the comfort level in my house than the central air conditioner I bought this summer.

Purchased this a couple weeks ago and it works very good so far. It comes with a humidistat and I would not waste the money on the install kit. I spent approx. $15 and had all the equipment I needed to install this humidifier. The sail switch that comes with the kit is a waste and prone to failure as well as the transformer as long as you have a furnace that is maybe 15 years old or newer. Most furnace circuit boards will already have a (HUM) 24V terminal and all you will need to do for wiring is wire the HUM terminal and common (COM) to the humidistat and from the humidistat to the water solenoid valve on the humidifier itself. This will only turn on the humidifier when the furnace itself kicks on and it should provide the 24V required if wired correctly. Hope that helps.

Follow the instructions and purchase additional ducting at your home center - plan first. Don't forget to add a damper in the ducting so you can shut the air flow off during the summer months. I hooked mine up to the intake plenum and wired the included transformer to the HUM connections on my furnace computer panel (there is a Hot (+) and a Common (-). HUM is for humidifier - check your furnace model to see if you have the HUM connections, I had wires attached to the HUM connectors, but they lead to a junction box in the furnace that dead ended with nothing attached to them - so I used them for the humidifier. I tested my HUM connection by attaching wires to the HUM connections and the other end to a lamp. Then turned on the furnace heat, When the furnace blower came on, the light came on and when the furnace blower turned off, the light turned off - Perfect, I want the water to flow only when the blower is on. Remember, in the summer this won't matter because the included humidistat you will install will be turned to "off". I mounted the humidistat on the intake plenum close to the unit (had to cut anohter small hole in the plenum), about 8" above so it could read the humidity accurately). As a side note - I have a Nest thermostat, but directions to connect it to the humidifier are vague and none of the heating installers I contacted were quite sure how to connect it (or wanted several hundred dollars to try and figure it out!), so I did not use that feature - but I love my Nest anyway! Sometimes it's better to keep things separate and simple!

I received the HE220A humidifier package, it is complete with the humidity sensor and fittings, and was easy to install. Its price on Amazon was much lower than the local hardware stores. I am very happy with it.

The Honeywell HE220A Humidifier was fairly easy to install with the right tools. The needed duct work and baffle must be purchased separately. Cutting into the existing duct work is easy with tin snips and/or a 4"hand grinder fitted with carbide blade. I installed the humidifier in the fall of 2010 and it made a big difference last winter. Our home seemed warmer and more comfortable even though the thermostat temperature was not changed. Also, no dry sinuses all winter long. I recommend a whole house humidifier for all forced air furnace applications.
