5.0 out of 5 stars Crank It Up
I purchased the Honeywell HFS641P a little over a month ago and I am very pleased with the choice. I also purchased a Soleus fan with remote for my roommate. I bring them both up, because they are both terrific fans depending on your likes. The Honeywell is very powerful and moves a lot of air; this fan is louder because of it. The fan works just fine and the remote and timer are nice features. However, this fan is very very loud! The low setting sounds like the high setting on most fans and it is a bit stronger than what low should be. The breeze option is more annoying than anything. The low setting sounds like the high setting on most fans and it is a bit stronger than what low should be. The breeze option is more annoying than anything. It seems to work by turning the fan on and off... I guess because a breeze isn't constant? This would probably be fine - maybe even nice - if the fan wasn't so loud! So the fan gets soft then loud, soft then loud. It is not a feature I wiil ever use because of this.

I bring them both up, because they are both terrific fans depending on your likes. The Honeywell is very powerful and moves a lot of air; this fan is louder because of it. The other fan is much quieter, but doesn't push as much air. I am happy with mine because I don't mind it being a little louder- and in my case with my window facing a well travelled road the sound is enough to drown out the traffic noise, while not being a nuisance. If you want much quieter, Soleus seems to do a great job.

3.0 out of 5 stars an oaky fan ..., May 19, 2006

The fan works fine and the remote is good too. But a few things to be noticed:

1. the lowest level of blow is still quite strong and not as quiet as it should be;

2. the timer is 2, 4 and 8 hours. I would like to have choices like 30 minutes and 1 hour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice fan, September 14, 2006

I had an older model of this fan for 5+ years before it died last week. After the summer we had here in San Diego, I don't blame the poor thing for giving up the ghost. I was so glad to see this fan available on Amazon, and hope that it lasts as long as the old one did.

It's great that the fan comes in black now. It's super easy to put together (sure it helps that I had the same model before), but it took maybe 15 minutes. The metal cover is easy to clean too. I used to wash the old one about 2 times a year to remove fuzzies.

This one is quieter than the old one, and seems to blow more air. I miss the option to control the oscillation from the remote, but I'll get over it. That's really the only drawback.

1.0 out of 5 stars My Honeywell Fan Died after 3 months!, August 20, 2006

My Honeywell 16-inch remote control fan just died. It has been about three months since I purchased it; it was used with reasonable frequency. It has a 5-year warrenty from Kaz, Inc, but you have to send a $10 check for handling, return packaging, and shipping charges ON TOP OF what you will have to pay to mail it back to Kaz, Inc. I paid $43.99 on Amazon. So it would cost me another $20-$25 to get it fixed/replaced after only having it for three months.

4.0 out of 5 stars Things you should know BEFORE you buy, June 23, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Honeywell HFS641P 16-Inch Remote Control Stand Fan (Kitchen)
A few key specs are missing from the amazon listing, so here they are:
1:) the fan stands 50 inches high with stand, the height is NOT adjustable
2:) the fan body is 16 inches in diameter, as is the base.
3:) Power consumption is 39 watts max.
It does oscillate if you want it to, and you can easily disable the oscillating if you prefer it to blow in one spot.
I've had the fan for 1 day, so I cannot comment as to longevity, though the 5 year warranty is heartwarming (although since GE now owns Honeywell, the chances of the company surviving 5 years are greatly diminished).
ONE MAJOR DESIGN FLAW: You cannot angle this fan downwards, so if you are lying in bed, and you want it to blow on you, the only way to achieve this is to place a fat book under the back end of the stand.
AS others have said, it runs fairly loud, even at the lowest setting. I also feel there should be a lower LOW setting which is a lot quieter.
BUT I will also say that it moves a good amount of air, much more than most ceiling fans, and the remote control is a nice bonus.
Plus, unless you are fortunate enough to live on 100 acres, you will probably appreciate the loud sound of this fan while sleeping, because it provides a soothing background noise that drowns out neanderthals (almost always males I might add) on motorcycles or boombox cars, barking mutts, and other annoyances which might otherwise be within earshot. Honestly, any fan that moves a lot of air is going to make noise. The noise is more the air being displaced than any mechanical noise. So far I am happy with this fan - the only things I would change, if Honeywell is listening are:
1) change the speed control to a dimmer type knob, so you can go from nearly no motion to full speed, not just 3 preset speeds -
2) add the ability to tilt the head DOWNWARDS, not just up.
3) make the height adjustable, from at the floor to top of pole - the head SHOULD slide up and down the pole, that would be ideal.
All in all though, seems to be a quality fan and well worth $40 delivered. Don't discount the value of free delivery here, folks, and no sales tax to boot. People rarely consider the true cost of going to a store (gas, time, aggravation, Lord knows what strain of swine flu you can catch, etc etc) - that is why WE LOVE AMAZON!

UPDATE 7/12/2011:
One flaw I have discovered in this fan: the remote sensor responds to many of the buttons on the remote control for my 55 inch LG LED TV. So if I change inputs on the TV, the fan turns on, or starts blowing faster. Not sure if this is an issue if you own any other TV set, but it bears mentioning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Product, June 7, 2007

I love this fan, it moves tons of air and is fairly quiet. The remote control option is great. This is the second Honeywell fan I have owned, the first one I had for 8 years before it finally started making noise and then quit. 8 years is a long time to own a fan like this. It was used everyday, winter and summer. I sleep with a fan on year round. I would recommend this product to everyone. I look forward to another 8 years of good sleep.

Our fan quit working after only 2 weeks. Honeywell directed me to talk to the vendor, but the vendor refuses to replace either the fan or our money. I recommend that you stay away from fans with touch pads/electronic controls. Reliability is not good.Honeywell HFS641P 16-Inch Remote Control Stand Fan

well designed, solid, very stable. Not overly noisy, moves a lot of air. I enjoy having a remote, much more useful than I thought it would be. The very best fan we've owned, very reasonable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fan very good, but a bit loud, May 30, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Honeywell HFS641P 16-Inch Remote Control Stand Fan (Kitchen)
This fan is a bit loud due to its different type of fan blade, but it puts out a lot of air. The fan blade is a turbo prop style blade like found on small aircraft. Thus it puts out a similar sound to an aircraft, much LESS loud than an aircraft, but still louder than most fans. Works great for me and was very easy to assemble. I would recommend this fan to anybody that wants a good fan with remote control that is not concerned with the extra noise. If you want a "whisper quiet" fan, do NOT buy this one. Otherwise this fan is great. Only drawback for me is that you cannot control the oscillation of the fan with the remote. You must control oscillation from the top of the fan itself. Auto-off can be controlled by remote and is 2, 4, 8 hour options. I will likely buy another of these fans next month.
