5.0 out of 5 stars Lifesaver (or at least marriage saver)
My wife loves her cats (multiple), and her dogs (also multiple); she mostly tolerates the kids and me. This winter my allergies were reaching critical mass. My wife gave me this Air Purifier for our room, as a Christmas present, and it has been amazing. 1.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably Noisy, Fussy and Unstable
The tower arrived and the first thing I noticed is that it was wobbly. Then the directions listed all the things you had to do for it to operate safely - a certain distance from the wall, the possibility it could stain the floor under it, could not be on an extension cord, could not be in a bathroom - which is where I wanted it so it could handle litter box odor. My wife loves her cats (multiple), and her dogs (also multiple); she mostly tolerates the kids and me. This winter my allergies were reaching critical mass. My wife gave me this Air Purifier for our room, as a Christmas present, and it has been amazing. One side note, the device puts out a good deal of white noise, personally, I like that, as it helps me sleep, others might find it annoying. My next step is to get them for every other room.
I highly recommend this product.

Update...
This unit worked fine for about a year, then it just died.
While it was worth the cost for the service it did provide, I was a bit disappointed in the durability.

I continued setting it up as directed, removing the filters from the plastic, etc. Then it said to run it for a little while on high before adjusting it, so I did - I thought. After about 20 minutes, I tried turning the very noisy fan down, only to discover that it was already on the lowest setting. (I could hear it at the opposite end of the house when it was on low!)

So, it makes far too much noise, is very unstable and could easily fall over if bumped, it might stain your floors, and needs to be very close to an outlet, even though it can't be against a wall. The decision is yours!

FYI, I returned mine and was charged the postage for it. Good Luck!

2.0 out of 5 stars Too noisy even on lowest setting, March 26, 2006

This review is unfortunately incomplete, since the unit was so noisy to me (even on the lowest setting) that I ended up returning it to the store within a few hours.
The unit seemed to have all the features I was looking for, I'm going to try another (different) Honeywell model with similiar features in the store and see what the noise level is.

1.0 out of 5 stars Brutally noisy, but with a catch., March 29, 2006
This review is from: Honeywell HHT-080 Permanent HEPA Tower Air Purifier (Kitchen)
I returned this air purifier within 18 hours of purchasing it. Even on it's lowest setting the amount of air noise this thing generates is unbearable, especially in a 900 square foot apartment.
Wait, there's more. On top of the stardard and expected noise of moving air, there's a vibrating plastic noise as well. It sounded as it the fans were not properly balanced and thus created an unavoidable and unfixable vibration. However, this might have just been my particular unit.
I did run it for about 3 hours in my bedroom (with the door closed because of the noise) and when I went to bed I noticed a slight change in alergies, but due to the fact that I couldn't run it in the room while I slept, I still woke up with a stuffy nose, and itchy red eyes...
Don't buy this product if you enjoy watching tv in your living room, or sleeping in your bedroom.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY!, June 14, 2009

Why buy an air purifier with 'permanent' air filters that have to be replaced if they get fouled? The filter CAN'T be washed! Although the unit functions well, this is a marketing sleight of hand to say they're 'permanent' yet must be REPLACED if they encounter 'smoke or other sticky particles'. Yes, I found this out to my shagrin. Your best bet would be to purchase a HFD-120 with washable filters!

4.0 out of 5 stars Initial review, January 29, 2009
This review is from: Honeywell HHT-080 Permanent HEPA Tower Air Purifier (Kitchen)
I just bought the HHT-080. I moved into a apt share where the last roommate had a cat. I liked that the unit had both HEPA and ionic. I thought I'd comment on the "noisy" complaints I've read about. Low and medium is not noisy at all... not more than a fan at worst. The high setting is louder, but not any more noisy than an AC window unit. No rattles either. Unit seems stable and level. I can feel the air movement in my 10x15 room. Still need to see if it helps with my allergies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat noisy, April 17, 2007
This review is from: Honeywell HHT-080 Permanent HEPA Tower Air Purifier (Kitchen)
I just bought 2 of them for both bedrooms and one of them was very quiet, but the other one made awful rattling noise. I immediately took it back to a store and exchanged it, just to find out that it makes pretty loud, but bearable "white" noise on the lowest setting. So, I guess, I lucked out on the first one, but I am considering taking the noisy one back. The good part, it did make a big difference in air quality, especially with ionizer, or though first smelled somewhat of machine oil or something like that, just a "new appliance" smell. I haven't sneezed even once and my throat isn't itchy (with 3 cats and a dog!), so I am giving it 4 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy with ours, April 12, 2011
This review is from: Honeywell HHT-080 Permanent HEPA Tower Air Purifier (Kitchen)
We have owned one of these air purifiers for over a year & it's still going strong. One reviewer mentioned that the permanent filters can't be washed, but I've washed mine several times & though the filters do become discolored they clean easily & still function well. The noise isn't a issue for us since we keep the unit in a hallway to help filter air from the TV room & in the hallway. We keep the unit running 24/7, set it to low speed at times when the areas of the house we use it for aren't in use & then set the speed higher when it's needed. We are both smokers, have several pets & so far this unit has kept up with what we need it for. I didn't give it a 5th star because of one unpleasant feature. The back cover that has to be removed to clean the filters is hard to get off because the snap latch for it is too close to the housing of the unit to depress it properly by hand. We have to use a wide, flat head screw driver to hold the snap latch down to get it to release.

Of all the items I bought, this has been one of the most useful things. My wife and I suffer from allergies. Ever since we bought and used the Honeywell purifier, we have not had one sleepless night due to allergies.

We leave the purifier on the medium setting all day and notice a difference in the air quality in a few minutes. You can hear it but it's not too loud.

I highly recommend this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as noisy as they say, January 5, 2009
This review is from: Honeywell HHT-080 Permanent HEPA Tower Air Purifier (Kitchen)
I bought this despite reading all the negative reviews of noise. I have also found that when it is on low you can barely even hear it, and with the tv on you can't. Certainly not unbearable. On medium it is a little louder but again, I can still hear my tv just fine. On the high setting it is loud, but again not unbearable, just turn up your tv a little, no you dont have to turn your tv all the way up either, it is equivalent to running a medium fan on high in the room. I have a fireplace insert and my place gets dusty, I have noticed my living room is less dusty and the air seems cleaner.
