Two Irritating Problems,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Honeywell HT-904C Tabletop Air-Circulator Fan, White (Kitchen)
I purchased this fan knowing that other reviewers had a problem with the pivoting fan head holding the selected position. I hoped that this condition had either been fixed, as it is a Honeywell, or it was not as bad as indicated by other reviewers. It has not been fixed and it is every bit as bad as indicated by others. Additionally, as I had the fan on a GFI outlet, I found that, when opeating the ON/OFF fan speed switch from one position to another, it opened the GFI outlet shutting off the fan. The fan has been returned to Amazon.

Poor design,

While this fan is a nice bright white, light-weight and quiet it is not well-designed. The weight of the motor does not allow you to keep the air direction perpendicular or even slightly angled. It will "lose its grip" and slip to straight toward the ceiling while running and sometimes even just sitting on the table.

Three stars for "adequate, but not all that good",

The price point on this fan is its most attractive feature.
But two things are worth knowing about this fan: 1) The tilt feature simply doesn't work. The fan was purchased at a local "big box" three days ago. From the outset, it wasn't possible to lock the fan's angle into position, which means that the air flow can't be directed. The fan seemingly directs itself, the only certainty being that even if it stays in position long enough for you to take your hands from it, it'll rock back. 2) Although it has three speeds -- some other fans offered at this price have only two -- the top speed is not at all powerful. One wonders if Honeywell sacrificed strength to gain relative quietness. Myself, I'll tolerate a low roar to get a little wind power. The low power would probably be more tolerable to me if it were at least possible to control the angle. But it isn't. If this had been purchased through Amazon, with Amazon's uncomplicated return policy I certainly would have returned it. But it isn't worth the hassle of dealing with the "big box" so it'll most likely get passed along to the thrift store.

No Longer Good As A Noise Fan,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Honeywell HT-904C Tabletop Air-Circulator Fan, White (Kitchen)
This model was my favorite sleep noise fan but unfortunately they have made it quieter. I was bummed as I ordered 4 and was going to stockpile even more since we have 5 bedrooms that need fans and we are hard on fans, running them 12 to 17 hours a day all year long. I really liked the white color and small size, it blended in with bedrooms and could also be cleaned. Now it is way too quiet and I had to send them back. It is hard to find the perfect noise fan in the winter as you can't listen before you buy!
Also, if you are buying it for cooling it DOES NOT move as much air as the previous model, I would not use it for this purpose either.

Fairly Good Inexpensive Fan,

Over the past few years, I've purchased four of these fans. Criticisms regarding its limited swiveling ability are warranted, but it does a respectable job of circulating air. One of the four fans I received was dead on arrival (would not turn on, no juice), but Amazon was quick to replace it at no charge. If I need to cool a small area in the future, I would not hesitate to purchase another.

Works well...but too quiet for me!,

I am giving this fan 5 stars, because it is as billed. It is the very same fan used for my grandson to create 'white noise' for him to sleep by. I bought one for my home for when he visits. However, the difference being that, it is the 'new & improved' version, which is said to be 25% quieter. This feature defeats my purpose!

Perfect fan for Kids room,

I purchased this fan March 1st to replace a different fan in my child's room. So far so good. It appears the manufacturer has fixed many of the problems that show up as complaints in the comment thread. The fan is not terribly loud, but it creates enough white noise to help my little one sleep. The air flow is not huge, but then again this is a small fan, and it does get the air moving quite well when properly positioned. There are multiple positions that hold in place for positioning the fan housing.I like it enough to purchase a second fan now that we are expecting our second child. This fan is nothing fancy, but for the price of less than $20 it is one of the best options that I have found.

Does not match the original high velocity fan,

I thought these fans would match the performance of the high velocity fans, but the highest setting is about equal to the lowest setting of high velocity fan. I would not buy again, even if they are a bargain on Amazon. Spend a bit more and get a better performance fan with much more usable range. If you are looking for a quieter fan, these are not that quiet at the lowest setting and after having purchased four of these identical fans, two of them make subtle vibration type noise. Perhaps the fans are not well balanced or the motor bearing is not up to par. Besides, air movement is minimal at the lowest setting. I don't like to give poor reviews, but very little wiggle room with these.

short lifespan, efficiency deteriorates after a couple months,

Used this for a few months in my office to keep cool. IF you are sitting relatively close (<5ft), there is a lot of air moved and works well. However, the motor has started to make very loud noises when running, and it's clearly not put together with quality parts. Cheap plastic parts can break easily.
ETA: I've owned two of these, one white and one black, both purchased from Amazon, both have ended up in the garbage for the same issues. After 3 months, these were loud, inefficient, and insufficient for what we bought them for. I'd look elsewhere.

The previous model was great, but this one not so much,
By NoCleverNick (Aurora, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honeywell HT-904C Tabletop Air-Circulator Fan, White (Kitchen)
This fan replaced the previous model HT-804. I purchased the 804 for my daughter's room last year and it has the right combination of power and noise to circulate the air through her room and provide white noise for sleeping. I needed another fan for my new baby's room and purchased the 904 model. What a disappointment: the tilt feature is useless since the motor housing is so heavy it just tips the fan back to a 45-degree angle whether you want it that way or not, complete with a loud click that effectively wakes up a sleeping baby. Also, the fan is much quieter than before: not good if you want white noise. Lastly, we've only had this fan for about 3 months and it's starting to fail. When it is first turned on, the blades won't spin by themselves anymore. I have to get something skinny to stick through the blade guard and spin the fan blade to get it going. Once it warms up it works fine and circulates the air, but that doesn't outweigh the problems so I'm looking for a replacement. Save your money - I wish I had.
