Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Although it's a big, powerful fan for big spaces, this 18-inch stand fan is surprisingly quiet, and it kicks up a small hurricane even on "low." Given that it sets up in about one minute and has an ultrastable 20-inch circular base, it's a good choice not only for warehouses and professional shops but for some home applications, too--turn it on "high," though, and you might discover you've donated all your drapes to the neighbors. (The fan's cage is well designed, if not elegant; however, if very small fingers were to reach that high they might squeeze through to the big, fast blade. Bad idea.) --Richard Farr

4.0 out of 5 stars One Big Fan, May 7, 2001

This is One Big Fan. It's not exactly quiet, but I can't really tell if it's because the machinery is noisy or if it's the noise of roomfuls of air being moved around every few seconds. If you are looking for a quiet bedroom fan to put on "low", this isn't it. Even at low it moves more air than just about any table fan on high. At high, you probably don't want it in the same room as you, at least if you need to sleep. However, if you are looking for a fan to cool off the whole house/loft/warehouse, or don't mind the off-white noise in your bedroom, this is the fan for you.

THIS FAN IS THE BEST THAT I HAVE HAD FOR COOLING OFF OF AN APARTMENT ROOM AND MOVING AROUND THE AIR TO MAKE IT VERY COMFORTABLE.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm its biggest fan, December 23, 2002

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Honeywell HV-181 18-Inch Stand Fan (Kitchen)
After the fan arrived this evening, it only took 5 nuts and bolts, 2 wing nuts, and a few minutes to assemble this sturdy air mover. The all-metal construction seems quite rugged, and the gunmetal finish appears durable. It stands a bit shorter than I expected -- it's only 5' tall from top to bottom.

I really like that you can angle the fan straight up. In this position, it really circulates the air in our loft with 20-foot ceilings. While more noisy than smaller fans, it's bearable when you consider the additional comfort it provides.

While the fan easily swivels up and down, you must physically rotate the entire unit (base included) to re-orient it from side to side. I don't anticipate that being much of an issue since I'm using this fan to circulate air through a large space rather than to waft a breeze directly on me.
