One of my best buys ever. I replaced a manual start generator of the same size. It was delivered to my garage with free shipping. I was able to assemble the unit with little help. 3.0 out of 5 stars is OK
I'd not rate it a workhorse, for occasional use it's OK. Not great craftmanship, or great quality. It's a year old now, and the rubber feet are cracked. The bolts for assembly were soft, I replaced some right out of the gate. The carb controls are cheesy. The battery is a cheapo, and the battery bolts are junk. Had I known all this I would not have purchased this...

This review is from: Honeywell HW5500E 6,875 Watt 11 HP 337cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Home Generator With Electric Start (Lawn & Patio)
One of my best buys ever. I replaced a manual start generator of the same size. It was delivered to my garage with free shipping. I was able to assemble the unit with little help. The one challenge was connecting the battery (it looked like no one had tested the Instructions). Filled with gas and oil and started on first try. Electrician changed the 220 plug for connection to Transfer Switch. Voltage regulation seems to be very good. Battery is holding charge, but I will add Battery Tender. I will be able to test unit on a regular schedule, because of the ease of starting.

Recieved it today. Was delivered by ABF freight the driver was very gracious. After unpacking and putting together it fired right away and ran very smooth and more supprising was it was much quieter than I expected. Went together very easily, and I will give it a good work out in a couple of weeks, but I expect I will be very satisfied. Dealing with Amazon before and now was very easy and great people to deal with.

Just wanted to add, I am just back from a 5 day camping trip and the generator was ran for atleast 50/60 hrs and the fuel economy was outstanding. I ran it over nite for AC on travel trailer 4 nites 7/8 hours and it burned less than half of a tank. Very impressed. Only thing watch oil consumption as it did use about 1/2 quart over the 5 days. But this was first real use and may be because of breakin....

The bolts for assembly were soft, I replaced some right out of the gate. The carb controls are cheesy. The battery is a cheapo, and the battery bolts are junk. Had I known all this I would not have purchased this unit. I now see a few Generac or Honda powered units at places like SAMS or Northern Tool or the new Ridgid units at Home Depot for maybe a little more, but they look to be much better quality.

That said, it seems to start and run OK, and it has what I needed when i bought it...electric start...which you seem to need to get it running many times.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good choice for a first-time generator owner, October 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Honeywell HW5500E 6,875 Watt 11 HP 337cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Home Generator With Electric Start (Lawn & Patio)
This model selected for electric start at the wattage I needed (5500)at a cost I could afford as a first-time generator owner and on good consumer reviews. Delivered by ABF Trucking which calls you to arrange delivery date; specify a liftgate due to weight of generator, delivery guy put generator into my garage. Ignore delivery date range in amazon auto-generated email.

Generator needs wheels and handles installed, with socket wrenches, instructions not great, took about 45 minutes by a friend who is generator-savvy. Started up with electric start, per instructions, no problems. You must use FRESH gasoline. Generator is easy for me to move in and out of garage, even with a full tank. Will be using for emergency power. Will see how it performs when first storm hits here in upstate NY and power goes out for days! Also recommend Reliance Transfer Switch, bought (8) circuit, installed easily by electrician.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Generator a bit on the noisy side, November 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Honeywell HW5500E 6,875 Watt 11 HP 337cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Home Generator With Electric Start (Lawn & Patio)
This is a great generator. I bought it as a stand-by for the house. There was very little assembly required and it started right up. The funnel that comes with the unit does not have a long enough neck to add the oil. You will need a longer necked one unless you tilt the generator to its side, however, then it is difficult to know when it is at the full mark. It is not that loud for this size of a generator but is louder than what I expected based on its right up. The electric start works great and is a must for the cold winters where I live. All-in-all, I would purchase this generator again.

Great buy for electric start generator with free shipping, delivered to my garage in just 4 days from order by ABF freight. Hardest part was getting out of box, easy to assemble and well built. Just filled with gas and supplied oil, it cranked right off. Easy to move around with wheel kit and supplied with a nice extension cord.

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating Warranty Support, November 28, 2011
This review is from: Honeywell HW5500E 6,875 Watt 11 HP 337cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Home Generator With Electric Start (Lawn & Patio)
The HW series generators are made by Generac. They also do the warranty support for Honeywell. The HW series generators are supposed to have a 3 year warranty on parts.Trying to get them to honor the warranty has been impossible, going onto a month now.The generator had about 12 hours use since new 2 yrs. and 11 months ago.The main breaker failed but has never tripped from overload.
After owning this unit and dealing with Generac warranty support has not been an easy experience.Generac owners must be frustrated also.
If you bought a Honeywell generator because of their 3 yr. warranty, good luck collecting on it.

The company is VERY remiss in supporting its products. I bought this generator less than 3 years ago but never had to use it until a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say, once we got it started, it did the job. However, it was VERY hard to start. I contacted Honeywell for their advice. They sent us to a local dealer for warranty service. It was "repaired" for a cost of $134! This is an appalling amount of money with a generator only having a few hours on it! Honeywell didn't want anything to do with the issue and would not offer any help or compensation. As a standby system it is totally worthless. The service finally returned it with a discharged battery after repeated calls from me to get it back. Bottom line, there has to be better, more reliable company for this. DO NOT CONSIDER HONEYWELL GENERATORS for your needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Dad, October 8, 2011

Bought this as replacement for a older less powerful unit for my father. This one is a lot more powerful and has electric start. Pop out handles are great and everything you need to touch to get it going is yellow! Only complaint is oil fill/dipstick is at a bad angle to fill, but thats it.
