4.0 out of 5 stars Poorly advertised
It is a lovely compact, quiet humidifier. However, we were looking to puchase a humidifier with greater tank space and were fooled by the product desription. It is advertised as a three gallon tank -- they are speaking of 'output per day', which means its about a 1.5 gallon tank designed to be filled more often.

1.0 out of 5 stars Honeywell is bad news.
I purchased the Honeywell warm-mist humidifier in December 2004. The machine died after 20 days. We only ran it at night and it worked fine until it died. The warranty is for five years. However, it costs $10 for a repair service fee in addition to the cost of shipping it to Massachussetts. After all that I may as well buy another humidifier. This time another brand.

This is a nice unit. Best feature is completely quiet operation. Worst feature is that the tank is hard to hold while filling. If you have a small sink or an odd shaped tub that requires you to hold the tank while filling, there is no easy way to do it except to put your fingers inside the tank to grip the tank.
This is my first warm mist unit. compared to cool mist units, this is a lot more maintenance work, a lot more scale builds up each week which needs to be cleaned up every week. Cool mist units you just add antibacteria solution into the tank, and throw away the filter every two months.

I wanted to buy the HWM-260 that was highly rated by CONSUMER REPORTS but couldn't find that model anywhere. This model lacks the unnecessary remote but otherwise is the same design. The user manual covers both models. Unit was $40 at HOME DEPOT. Simple to use, easy to clean and reassemble; no filters to worry about! Also, very quiet even on higher setting. So far, so good...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard water warning, December 4, 2005

This humidifier worked just great the first year that I owned it. I didn't have any problem with the hygrometer like other people have reported; the tank is easy to fill and carry; the unit is very quiet. I only use it while I'm sleeping and I could get 8 hours on "HI" setting, which was perfect. PROBLEM: If you have hard water, you will only get 1 year out of this model. The buildup on the heating element & reservoir is VERY hard to clean, and I had to clean it every other day. Last year the coating on the heating element started to wear off, which resulted in contaminated water vapor and burning odor when water ran low. This is the 2nd time I've had this problem with a warm-mist unit, so I am going to try an ultrasonic this time around. Heating element + hard water = bad news.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid like the Avian Flu, December 16, 2005

It works like a dream for a short period of time. Then the heating element gets caked and the unit starts to spit and sputter. This happens even if it is cleaned every week. It would be nice if the heating element were made of stainless steel or some smooth metal that from which mineral build up could be removed. It has a 5 year limited warrenty but I can't believe that one could last more than one winter. I have had 2 of these units but neglected the first one which died very quickly. I've cleaned the second one constantly but it still has a build up on the heating element after 1 month. I don't know how Honeywell can still be selling this unit. But worse than that HOW COULD I BE DUMB ENOUOGH TO BUY A SECOND ONE? It would be a decent product if the heating element could be bought seperately to replace the caked ones. Do not buy, steal or accept as a gift, even if you live in a rainforest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for what it is.... and what it costs...., December 25, 2004

This humidifier works great for its size. I chose the "warm mist" over the cool mist for several reasons (which I won't get into with this review). It's silent except for the occasional blurp of the water advancing down into the boiler section. Easy re-filling and cleaning makes this unit very attractive. Sure helps make the house more comfortable during the Winter months!

I was able to buy this humidifier @ Home Depot for less than Amazon.com was selling it for ($39), but thought I'd give it a good review on here nevertheless....

4.0 out of 5 stars Works for me, March 5, 2005

Have had this unit for almost 2 years. Love this unit and planning to buy another because I've moved into a bigger place. I've not had any problems with it whatsoever.

Features I like about this unit:
-- the tank lasts a good 7-8 hours at the high level so I turn it on before I go to sleep and don't have to wake up and refill in the middle of the night.
-- almost maintenance free. I only have to wash it once every year (after winter) before storing for the next winter. I've seen another review where more washings may be necessary (probably due to hard water).
-- no filters to use (cool mist humidifiers require this). This is probably a personal preference but I don't like the idea of spending $$ to buy filters.

What I don't like about the unit:
-- humidity gauge is useless/unreliable. At first I tried using the humidity gauge to control the unit's operation but soon I find it to be in accurate. What I do now is let it run till the tank runs out, or use the timer.
-- this unit is extremely quiet, except for the occasional gurgling when the water through the tank.

Both things I don't like about are really minor (to me) or I wouldnt' have kept it. But they are the same reasons I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like a charm!, December 2, 2005
This review is from: Honeywell HWM255 3-Gallon Warm Moisture Humidifier (Kitchen)
I had a really hard time finding a humidifier that had decent reviews and was well-priced. While the reviews here were mixed, the price was right and I wanted to switch from the cold air humidifiers (which were all SO noisy) to a warm air one. I have had this one for a couple of weeks and it is GREAT. No noise, perfect vapor, easy to use. I trust the humidity levels it reads are correct, but have not seen a problem.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the trouble....., January 24, 2005
This review is from: Honeywell HWM255 3-Gallon Warm Moisture Humidifier (Kitchen)
I brought one last winter, I used it about 2 times before I put it in my closet because I didn't like the display. It always showed the wrong humidity level. I decided to keep it as a emergency replacement. I was using the Duracraft\Honeywell HWM2030 non stop in the winter time for about 3 or 4 yrs and it finally gave out on me. So I started using this unit again and after 2 wks worth of use it stop working on me, it want even turn on, the digital display just blinks and makes noise. Needlees to say I be buying a new Duracraft HWM2030.
