2.0 out of 5 stars Thermostat a real problem
The concept of this heater looked great, but it has one fatal flaw--the thermostat. It seems to think the room is much hotter than it actually is. As a result, even at the highest setting it shuts off after a short period of time. Yet the room is still cold--and there's no way to turn the heater back on. You basically have to wait 20 minutes for the heater to "cool...

Pros:
Small footprint
Heating element well hidden inside the machine
Redundant safety features
Relatively quiet
Competitively priced

Cons:
Thermostat is not as accurate as I like
Not good for "spot" heating, like warming up just the rocking chair area when watching TV.

This heater suits best for heating up small, enclosed spaces (about 14x14sq.ft.). I use it in my bedroom and the result is great.

The air outlet velocity is low and non vectorized by design. It relies on low velocity, de-facto free, convection as a prime source of heat transfer. This mode of heating carries an advantage for not drying skin (Example, a typical hot-air blowing heater acts like a hair dryer!), and heat very evenly within a small area. Thus make this a bad choice for "spot" heating.

Advice the last person who gave this machine a bad rating. You are like complaining about a Toyota Corolla not able to reach 200mph. Please spend some money to insulate the place and buy a bigger heater, or two for your application.

The unit was solidly built, has overheat and tip-over sensor, and the heating element was located in a remote location and it's impossible to touch. Therefore, it scores really high on safety. However, please use common sense when using this unit (keep the unit away from small children, moisture, water, drapery...)

The unit uses a "Mechanical" thermostat and it does not control the room's temperature very well. It would be better for Honeywell to change it to a digital thermostat.

Conclusion: Use it for what it's best for (small, enclosed space or 14x14 sq.ft.), and you will not be dissappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what I need it to, April 2, 2006

This little unit works very well in my bedroom and heats up very quickly just on the low setting. In the living room I've used it on the high setting and it also works pretty quickly. I use this unit when I am the only one who is cold and don't want to use the central heat. I really like the option to use 360/ front function and the thermostat capability. As per the directions, you turn on the unit with the thermostat on full heat and when the temperature is as hot as you want you slowly turn it down until the unit clicks off. Then it will automatically shut on and off to keep that temperature. My only complaint, which is why I didn't rate the unit 5 stars, is that it is too noisy for me. I mostly wanted this unit for nighttime use and when the unit clicks on and off it wakes me up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick, Hot, and Safe, February 1, 2007

I plugged this in yesterday for the first time. It seems very safe. The ON nob has a childproof turn system. At the hottest temperatures I can still pick the heater up by the metal grate. Most impressive is how fast it heats up. As soon as it turned on I felt a lot of heat, as if it arrives from the factory with hot air waiting to blow out upon first use. It has a little bit of the "heater odor", like when you turn the heat in the car way up. It heat my room up really fast, but it's a small-medium sized room. I looked around a lot for heaters and read a lot of reviews. This one worked out perfectly for me; I am very happy with my choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars These babies work!, February 5, 2005
This review is from: Honeywell HZ-2200 Mini Tower Surround Heater (Kitchen)
I have a 2 bedroom apartment outside of Boston. When the temperature outside drops below 20 degrees or so, the interior temp. struggles to remain above 60 degrees or so. I have deployed three of these great heaters in my apartment and the temp. now can get well above 65 when it is really cold outside.

A+ machine, sleek design, definetly not ugly and will get the job done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great For A Small Room, October 17, 2005
This review is from: Honeywell HZ-2200 Mini Tower Surround Heater (Kitchen)
If you have a small room, it will heat it efficiently. Just make sure to close the door. It won't work for a larger room, but the price is so cheap, you can get a few for each room. It does the job for the price. It would heat up a child's room perfectly on those cold winter nights. It is also safe and if tipped over, it will turn off automatically. Not bad for the price. You may even find it cheaper than the price here at Amazon. I purchased it at Linens & Things for $24.99 (sale price) The regular price was $29.99.

2.0 out of 5 stars Melted itself open, November 7, 2007

This review is from: Honeywell HZ-2200 Mini Tower Surround Heater (Kitchen)
I bought this heater last year and used it all winter very happily. It worked very well and kept my computer room comfy and warm.

This year i brought it out to use, plugged it in and on the second day it started turning off on me after about 3 min of use. I unplugged it and let it cool off since it got amazingly hot after that 3 min and i discovered the black, round casing with the holes in it that goes around the top, had melted itself open in the back.

I loved this heater last year but can only give it 2 stars due to longevity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for small rooms, March 1, 2008
This review is from: Honeywell HZ-2200 Mini Tower Surround Heater (Kitchen)
I use this heater occasionally to heat up the bathroom before a shower, or for extra heat in my small, home office on particularly cold, windy days. I have found the heater to be well-built and dependable. Because the heater doesn't blast out hot air, it's perfect for small spaces. My old heater put out more hot air with more force, but it didn't seem as safe, and I often felt like I was being 'toasted' on one side. I prefer the even heat of the honeywell.

Two cons: I wish there was a grip or handle on the top, so it could be easily moved. I also don't like the placement of the air-intake slots. Air goes into the heater right above the dish shaped base, and if any dust or hair has collected in the 'dish,' it gets sucked into the heater and stinks. So it's important to make sure that the base is dust-free before turning on the heater.

2.0 out of 5 stars it's melted itself, November 5, 2007

It's warm for small room. I used it for almost 7months and, one day it "melted" itself :( may be because I turn on it too long...
