GREAT Heater,
By Quad (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honeywell HZ-370GP Electronic Ceramic Heater, White (Kitchen)
I have about 10 portable heaters between my house and my office. I have several Honeywell models which are ceramic. I also have the Honeywell model 709 oil-filled heater.
This model, the 370 ceramic heater, is the best so far. The thermostat works the way it should. The older models that Honeywell makes like the 339, and 341 work well, but the thermostat doesn't work the way it should. This new model, the 370, works absolutely awesome. Don't buy the oil filled model. I did some detailed testing with thermometers and timers. The ceramic model heats the room twice as well as the oil filled. I use all my heaters every day for about 6 months per year. Take my word for it, this model is great. The plastic will smell for a few weeks though. That seems unavoidable with any model unfortunately. Just run it in the basement or garage for 15 minutes per day for a few weeks and the smell is gone. Buy this model and you won't be disappointed.

Best heater and I have tried a few,

We bought several heaters and tested them out over the last 3 years. We have 2 little girls and use them to keep their rooms at 69 degrees at night (Wisconsin has some long winters). The others we tried were complicated to set or program, but this one is easy as pie. push the center dial, turn to the desired temp and if you want eco mode. That's it!!!!! It heats their 13'X12' bedrooms with ease, I would even say it would heat rooms up to twice that size. The first one we bought over 3 years ago and it is still going strong.
In Closing, if you are looking for a heater, look no further, spend a little extra $$ and get this model it is worth it

I bought this heater for my mother. It had to be easy to operate and automatically shutoff in case of falling over. This heater does everything I had hoped for and it heats the room quickly and quietly. I'm very pleased.

Effective but loud.,
This review is from: Honeywell HZ-370GP Electronic Ceramic Heater, White (Kitchen)
This heater is fairly loud compared to the other forced-air space heaters I have used. I returned it because it woke me up at night whenever it switched on. There was also a barely-audible sqeal it started to develop as it oscillated. If you are a heavy sleeper, or have a large enough bedroom that you can tuck the heater in a far corner, this probably won't be an issue for you. One other complaint is that I had to reset the thermostat every time I turned it on, because it doesn't remember the settings after being turned off. Otherwise, it did the job nicely.

Excellent Little Heater!,

This review is from: Honeywell HZ-370GP Electronic Ceramic Heater, White (Kitchen)
The Honeywell HZ-370 GP Electronic Ceramic Heater is "just the right size" if you are looking for a compact heater with a stylish design. It can be used for both floor and table top. I especially like the modern, streamlined body of this heater. There is a digital window which shows the room temperature, an energy saver button, a timer which can be set for 1, 2, 4, or 8 hours. Also, the temperature can be set from 45 degrees to 80 degrees, and the heater will turn off when that temperature is reached; it will be displayed, and then blink. It will then turn back on when the temperature drops below the desired setting. There are two heat settings - 1500 watts on high, and 900 watts in the energy saver mode.
By pressing the button on the top, the heater will oscilliate. There is a recessed handle on the top for convenience. It is equipped with several saftety devices and has a tip-over switch that disables the heater if tipped over. An Alert Heat Indicator Badge on the grille turns from black to red when hot. A high temperature safety control prevents overheating, and a back-up thermal circuit breaker will shut down the heater if operated a higher than normal temperatures. Also, the heater runs fairly quite for the amount of heat it puts out. I was impressed with the many features of this heater and how efficiently it performs. It puts out ample heat for the size. If it came with a remote, it would have received 5 stars. This is the only feature it lacks, and I would have preferred to be included. Great little heater!

Hi, My name Is Mr. H. Patel and this is my first review on amazon. I never get a chance to write review. But i like this heater so much. I bought this heater from Walmart in clearance for $20 in March-2008. Since 2008 i am using it in 18 X 15 feet room and it's work's great. I am living in northern New jersey where winter is so brutal. sometime temp. drops down in -10 degree Fahrenheit. But this heater never gave up. It has nice thermostat control which turn on of in +/- 2 degree range of set temperature. Looks tiny but very powerful. also it has tip over safety feature works great. I have carpet in my all room. and i am putting this heater on small stool in corner it works for me.
After 3 winter i used i just cleaned it by opening it's panel from backside. Obviously it has lint kind of stuff clogged on top of ceramic element. I cleaned it now it's ready for 2011 winter.I recommend clean it every 2 years so it will not use extra electricity to heat it up room and work efficiently.

I have access to all kinds of old heaters for free. I bought this because of the safety features and thermostat. Only want it to run when it's needed. Don't want to come home to a burning house because the cats knocked the thing over.
Works very good. Pumps out the heat. Like the engineers say: 1500 watts of heat is 1500 watts of heat. You can't change that. Why pay a bunch more when you can't increase the actual efficiency. I do think the fan distributes the heat much more efficiently.

After using the heater for about a week, it's still working fine. There was some initial plastic smell (not that bad though) that dissipated after the first couple of days.
As described on the product page, there is no remote. The heater has a 1500 watt and 900 watt setting. I have only used the 1500 watt setting with the temperature control. It seems to work fine. No problems with the outlet (the cord does get slightly warm) and it has yet to trip any circuit breakers. The temperature control has a +/- 2 degree swing. So if you set it for 72 degrees, the heater will stay on until the temperature reaches 74 degrees and then turn off until the temperature reaches 70 degrees at which point it will repeat the cycle. The fan is a bit loud. You can sleep through it though. Also, the fan has only one speed (loud) regardless of which mode (1500 or 900) the heater's in. The oscillation works fine and does not add any more noise (certainly nothing that can be heard over the fan). Why not 5 stars? Lack of a remote and the loud fan (which almost dropped it to 3 stars).

the newest batch of these are DANGEROUS!,

We own 4 of this model at least 4-5 years old which get 5 stars for safety, reliability, and features. They are true workhorses and have NEVER given a problem. However, apparently the manufacturing standards have changed. Due to the high cost of heating oil here in the northeast we rely mainly on these Honeywell space heaters in individual rooms to provide safe and much lower cost heating (and we have saved money into the thousands, guaranteed..)
I regret to report that EVERY one of these Honeywell ceramic heaters ordered in 2011 has failed quickly and dangerously within days or weeks of ordering, and are nothing like the older ones we own, despite the identical features. The problems have ranged from absolute death (just will not turn on again) to loud popping gunshot noises and burning up and going on fire, to thermostat failure on energy saver mode going up to 86 degrees when set to 64... to a 2 day old unit straining and grinding and smelling of smoke when turned on...the last three failures occurred on units less than a week old!! I sent one of these back to Amazon and they replaced it OVERNIGHT (Amazon rocks!!) but the latest failure, on the replacement unit, in only two days, has convinced me that these are now simply just poorly made and DANGEROUS heaters and I will be opting for a refund vs replacement, hoping our "old" Honeywell heaters continue to hold up, AND hoping to warn people, do NOT leave these heaters unattended next to your beloved children or pets..the episode on our 3 day old heater with the gunshot noises and fire was truly frightening..thankfully I was in the room when this happened...one failure, ok?! but the rest are no fluke. These WERE once once excellent units...if anyone reading this has a recommendation for a safe space heater with a thermostat function, I will be grateful!

Pro's: It's a functional heater, if a bit pricey. Not too big. Has digital temperature display (ambient and setting).
Con's: 1) It's an oscillating heater, which I didn't need and which is not in the description (at least to my eyes, in the product features). 2) Anti-tip over switch is far too sensitive- tip it a few degrees to see the temp display while it's on the floor, and it shuts down. At first I thought it was defective. 3) Lowest heat setting is 900W (vs 1500W Max); 750 or so would have been better. 4) Most annoying, no memory of last settings. Every time I turn it on, set to low(er) heat level, then rotate temp dial several turns to get the keep-warm temp from the 75 degrees default. New: Seems to change temperature setting spontaneously. Set to 62 deg, after a while it's at 60 deg. Not terrible in my case, but if a unit kept moving the temp up, could be a safety problem. Down to 2 stars! |
