This unit works very well in a typical sized room.

I took it back after realizing a flaw; the thermostat is poorly positioned inside the unit allowing it to falsely sense the true room temp.

The air conditioning is SO much better than the unit we were using before.

I've had this a/c unit since may-2013, it is almost august-2013.
I don't usually review stuff but, I feel this a/c is getting unfairly treated.
the first day I had that same problem with water getting everywhere, I wasn't sure why there was so much especially when most of the water was supposed to be vented out in the exhaust supposedly. Second I had the problem with the temperature not really going below a certain temperature.

So, after messing with the control's, and failing. I decided to consult the manual, it told me that all I had to do was make sure it was on the little ice icon, not on the one it was originally defaulted to. I honestly thought this was the correct setting in the first place, but I guess I never gave it chance. This solved both my temperature issue and my water issue. I don't have to put any kind of drain on my a/c and at night it has easily hit 72 ( had it set on 71). It also says that on the fan setting it acts like a dehumidifier and that is when the reservoir fill and that is when you need to add your little drain pipe(this was the setting it was set on). I forget there is like two more settings.

There is one other thing with this a/c and pretty much all other portables that I've seen, even though they vent out most of the moisture, some times depending on how humid it gets you might need to empty out the top reservoir( I think there is some warning that lets you know though). This has never happened to me and I live in Houston, Texas it is extremely humid, with average humidity levels sitting around 78 and above and temperature that have hit 104 degrees F.

Last thing about portable a/c's is on average they cool about 100 sqft. less than window units(as per btu). ( like a 14000 btu window unit will cool about 550 sqft. so a 14000 btu portable unit will cool 450 sqft.) so when you going to buy a portable unit keep that in mind.

So I wanted to heat my basement in NYC which has been as low as 55degrees F with no heat sources (20 degrees outside). I tried using two 1,500 basic convection heaters and the temp increased about half a degree. It did not work at all, but only to heat the 5 foot area it was in.

My basement area is 26' x 18' (but not square) and some walls are insulated, but not all. So, I took a gamble with this Honeywell product because I really need to use the basement in the cold winter. My gamble paid off so far.

The heater comes in a 5 foot tall box.. its gigantic. and heavy. It's easy enough to open the top of the box and remove the accessory kit and then the box separates from the bottom to reveal the heater\AC. The unit come with wheels already on it.

I rolled it to the stairs and used the built in handles to bring it down to the basement. It's super heavy.. over 50lbs.

Since my basement windows are really high up, about 6 feet, I ended up putting it on top of an old Ikea table with a foam pad underneath to stop the wheels from rolling. I had to elevate the heater because the proprietary hose was too short. (I'm sure it would be fine for standard height windows). I have small sliding basement windows, so I had to cut the window assembly to fit. Not a big deal with a scroll saw.

Next I turned it on and choose the "sun" icon which is for the heat. (by the way, you must vent the duct that shoots the cold air outside, otherwise the heat pump will not work!). So to my surprise, this is NOT a traditional HEATER. You won't feel the heat right away. What this device does is take the cold air from inside the basement and send it outside.

We use this in a brick uninsulated garage that is detached from our house. We were looking for something to make the space more pleasant on cooler days or warmer nights. We use the garage as a second living space/ playroom and it has been difficult to find something that can both heat and cool without spending a fortune. This has done the trick! It's warms up the whole large space pretty quickly, but it does have to be in the high 40's outside to work properly. The air conditioning is SO much better than the unit we were using before. Worth every penny!

This is a great air conditioner. I was able to vastly improve the "cooling power" of this air conditioner by covering the white vinyl heated air duct with an "8 in. x 25 ft. Insulated Flexible Duct R8 Silver Jacket" from Home Depot. It keeps the heat from the exhaust duct inside the silver jacket and delivers the heat to the environment outside, instead of into the room you are trying to cool. You can also buy the appropriate hose clamps so the silver jacket doesn't slip off the duct connectors.

I bought this for a 50 x 50 foot room in an 1881 built Wyoming "Oil Baron" Mansion. It works excellent.
My experiences: I was missing a part for the exhaust system (I think it fell out of the box). One email... ONE and Honeywell had it on my doorstep the next day.

Install was easier than my last portable A/C unit and if you "RTFM" you'll be shocked how well laid out and clear it is.

Performance: compared to other reviews, yes, I can reproduce the "no air, no cooling" problem. It is because... yep... you need to RTFM and watch the hose install! As soon as the hose is placed correct, boom! Pleasant cold or quick heat.

*TAKEAWAY* Read the effing manual and place the hose properly and straight. Also OPEN the top vents entirely. You're in for a treat. Also, it's common sense, but I gotta say it: don't vent into a window box, or any other funky restrictions after the exhaust exit.

Filtration is superior to my other name brands, low to no maintenence.

Noise is actually quieter than other Portable AC units I have used.

It has been running in 85 degree to 101 degree weather, non stop, the auto drain misting system works perfectly, never had to drain it, rarely run on full power to stay comfortable and it averages about 1kwh compared to the 1.4kwh of my other 8000 BTU unit. (When you live in a large home, you need to watch power consumption or you're gonna be living in a tiny apartment while you pay off your old bills :)
