Inferior to older Honeywell humidifiers,
By HIpSavvy "Hipsavvy" (Menlo Park, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honeywell QuietCare Cool-Moisture Humidifier, 3-Gallon, HCM-630 (Kitchen)
We bought this humidifier to replace one that was purchased about six years ago, also a Honeywell model. That model had a two gallon tank and would shut off if the water ran out. Compared to that, this newer model has a relatively TINY tank, at perhaps a gallon or so. Since the unit is rated at 3 gallons per day output, that would mean quit a bit of refilling on very dry days. On our old unit, the tank had a handle on the underside (where the fill cap is) so that when you filled it, you had something to hold on to. Not so with the new unit. And to make matters even more difficult, the bottom of this new tank is not flat, so you can't just set it under the faucet and expect it to stay there.
The most annoying thing though is the absence of an automatic shutoff and indicator light when the water level gets too low. Because the tank is in the back of the unit, it is hard to see the water level. This thing will run and run and run without water, drying out the filter so you have to take it out an re-soak it again. While stylistically nicer, this units functionality is a real step down from previous generations of their humidifiers.

Quiet, works well, needs to be refilled daily. Filter only lasted 6 weeks. My local Home Depot doesn't stock replacement filter. Must order online. Buy extras when ordering humidifier.

Not Quiet Anymore!,
By Charmed Life (NJ) - See all my reviews

This humidifier was about as quiet as they come for the first few weeks. It abruptly started making a lot more noise. We've tried adjusting everything but the fan just sounds a lot louder now. I don't recommend buying it if the quiet aspect is your prime concern.
The filter does need to be changed quite often as the other person mentioned.

Only had unit for a few days and it stopped working.Motor ran,but did not use any water.
I emptied it of all water, put some vinegar in, ran that through,it now works great. Now, I put a few drops of vinegar in every other fill. As far as the moldy smell, I use a little Sol u Mel in every two or three fills----no mold.(Sol u Mel kills mold spores and dust mites and helps with alot of other "chores" around the house. Barbara

Works well and runs quietly,

This model is very quiet and will put a lot of moisture into the air, especially if you keep the filter moist by frequent turning and replace it when it hardens and becomes less absorbent.

Worst humidifier ever,
By
This review is from: Honeywell QuietCare Cool-Moisture Humidifier, 3-Gallon, HCM-630 (Kitchen)
I paid the price for buying an inexpensive humidifier. The filters are expensive, relative to the price of the humidifier, and they mold within a week or two, even with the cleaning cartridge installed (yet another thing to buy). The moldy smell makes it impossible to use - I'm allergic. I bought two replacement filters, when they are gone (this week since they don't last long), I'm trashing this thing. DO NOT BUY. GET A FILTER-LESS ONE.

It is really quiet (you can still hear, if it is in the max. position). I live in colorado and it feels great, i have it in the bedroom and it reaches 36% humidity, since i have it i sleep a lot better.

I bought one 6 months ago after going through a couple more expensive ones in the last five years. This is the easiest to work with and keeps the humidity up in a space larger than its designed for. Have bought two more for other family members.

MOLD!!! MOLD!!! MOLD!!!,
By Mikhail Sushchik "Ponger" (SF Bay Area, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honeywell QuietCare Cool-Moisture Humidifier, 3-Gallon, HCM-630 (Kitchen)
This is a stupid, idiotic design shared by all Honeywell CoolMoisture products. The fan sucks humid air through the fan turbine and the parts of the machine that are not accessible for cleaning. In a couple of months of use mold grows all over the inside, including the fan turbine blades. De-molding it is nearly impossible. So, great, now instead of breathing dry clean air you breathe moist air with mold spores.
I just cant figure out why the designers did not reverse the air flow, so that humid air goes through fewer parts so that when mold grows you can clean in easily.

Good product, misleading on Capacity, but improved tank design,
By wyoming (jackson hts., NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honeywell QuietCare Cool-Moisture Humidifier, 3-Gallon, HCM-630 (Kitchen)
I purchased 2 HCM-630 humidifiers on the basis of the reviews. It works very well, quiet enough for me. However, there is very misleading information on the tank capacity -all the indications are that it hold 3 gallons-NO! (I got the information from Matt of Kaz, Inc. help desk) On the cover of the Owner's Manual it states "3 US Gallons (11.3 Liters) OUTPUT PER DAY"! It is suppose to put out 3 gallons of mist a day, but the tank holds only 1.5 Gallons! That was the answer to why I had to refill it so often.
Pros - works very well, quiet, and really puts out the moisture without any of the white residue. Cons - misleading water capacity and need to refill often. PRO - By the way, Kaz-Honeywell has redesigned the water tank so the top is more flat (they responded to customer complaints?) and can be held on a surface while refilling. Also, I think the flatter design has increased the tank capacity. Yes, I recommend it. |
