This review is from: Honeywell RTH5100B 1025 Deluxe Manual Thermostat (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this thermostat to replace an older programable type that I could not get to work properly. It would turn on and off at the oddest times and I could not correct it following the manual provided. I decided to return to a simple model, but wanted a digital type rather than the older mercury dial variety. This Honeywell thermostat is so simple to use, and is accurate as can be. I am retired and spend most of my time at home anyway and can set it and forget it. If we have been out for a few days, we lower the heat, and increase it to our regular temp when we arrive home. It is almost an instant warm up and absolutely trouble free. This is all you need to keep life simple and easy.

I got this for my 87 year old mother-in-law who cannot manage multiple programs. She loves it, as the only choices she has to make are OFF/Heat/Cool, Fan On/Auto, and Temp UP/Down. Works great too.

See my review of RTH110B. I thought it would work. It failed after 3 days.
I just installed this unit. I cycled it through heat/cool. Both work. They advertise that there is some auto switch over feature from H<->C. It must be programmed with the 2 arrow buttons. Complicated. Probably will be lost w/battery change. I have 3 functions heat, cool, & off. Which is what I want. It does maintain 1 degree range within set point. Display and buttons on front make adjustments quick and easy. Any mechanically inclined home owner can install this. The longest delay, will be positioning sheet rock anchors, if needed. Thermometer is primitive and can not be calibrated to match existing/accurate thermometers. The work around is to simply adjust your set point by the difference between what this unit reads and your old unit. I will update this review in the next days, weeks, months on its longevity, since Honeywell reliability has proved less than 100%. 1 Week later: Still works as advertised. I've gotten use to out of calibration thermometer reading. 1 Month later: Still working. Appreciating the 1 degree comfort zone. 1 year later; Still working.

Reading instructions, I installed it myself, ever since, I noticed a drop in electricity usage so it's paying for itself. Easy to read glows in the dark, very easy to set Temp.

This thermostat was the answer to our frustration with a more complex, programmable thermostat that had been in our small apartment for 4 years. The RTH5100B 1025 was EASY TO INSTALL and is very simple to operate. It's either on or off, and when it's on, it's highly accurate at keeping the temperature in our 540 square foot apt. at the selected degree. We now live in South Florida and have a heat pump system for the AC and heat. When the thermostat was first installed, it took about 5 minutes for the thermostat to recognize and sync with this type of system. The directions indicated this, though, so we weren't too concerned when the AC didn't go on right away. We waited, per the directions, and within 4-5 minutes the AC started up. If you live in an area where the power goes off on a rather frequent basis, this thermostat does not need to be re-programmed when the power comes back on. In our neighborhood, the power annoyingly goes off for short periods of time for no apparent reason. With our former programmable thermostat, we had to re-program it every time this happened, even if the power had only been off for a couple of seconds. I'd recommend this to anyone who is home most of the time and wants a dependable, simple system of cooling/heating their home.

Good basic thermostat digital but manual,

This thermostat was bought to replace a 20 year old honeywell.
My elderly parents wanted a basic unit that had to be: Manual - they don't even know how to set the clock on the oven when the power goes out. They don't care if the house is hot or cold when they get home, so the daily programmable units with different time frames is overkill. They couldn't turn on the AC on our old units because the default programming kept overriding their settings. All they need is a simple on off switch Digital - it had to not look old and outdated. This thermostat fits the bill on most of their requirements. If it was like the other Honeywell unit that was for heat pumps, this would be a 5 star review. Biggest gripes for this unit: The on off "switch" is just a button that toggles Off, Heat or Cool and some small words appear on the LCD. Not the best idea when the LCD is tiny. Its not easy for 65 year old eyes to see that. I'm 30 years old and I wasn't able to read it that clearly. The cool off heat should be an easy toggle switch. The backlight looks like some old digital wristwatch from a Casio or Timex from about 20 years ago. This unit is almost as expensive as the Honeywell RTH3100C1002, but definitely not as nice. We're not going to return this because it seems like the only game in town when it comes to basic manual digital thermostat.

PRO:
- Simple controls, no-programmable complexity - Displays both current room temp, and target temp (my old unit only displayed one or the other, at any given time) - Battery tray is easy to access without need to remove entire unit (very clever design) - Easy install, just connect four color-coded wires, attach to the wall, and run though a very simple set-up menu... took about 10 minutes total - Sensitive: turns on / off the furnace and AC very quickly and often (unit keeps house in very narrow temp range) CON: - Perhaps too sensitive / too much cycling of AC(?) Unsure how this may impact utility usage - Unit size is 3.5" high X 4.5" wide. I needed to patch and paint, since the old unit was larger - Small 'click' sound is produced by the thermostat whenever it directs the furnace / AC ON or OFF ... not bad, but notable

I used this for an AC ONLY application and it installed quickly and worked right away. I am quite happy with this unit and would recommend it. I do agree with others that some of the display is hard to read and I need my glasses to see the smaller numbers/words on the bottom of the display.

I purchased this to replace an older Honeywell thermostat. The mounting holes lined up right with the old one making the install very EZ. This simple model is great. Each button has one function. No problems with setting times or days... just set he temp and walk away!

Life is complicated enough without having to out smart the thermostat! We had one of those %#&*^ programmable ones that always seemed to have some problem or another, plus being retired we don't always want or need heat or air at the same time each day. We don't turn it on unless we need it, what with the cost of propane and electricity. Anyway, this is perfect! The instructions are clear and simple - they even include wire labels, nice touch! It's easy to understand and very intuitive to operate. I feel that programmable 'stats for the home probably waste more energy that they save, kind of like sprinkler systems that run even when it's raining. We hear A/C systems running in the neighborhood even on cool days! If you want to make life easier and maybe save some energy, this will do the trick!
