5.0 out of 5 stars Purchased, Installed and working great for a year
I purchased the Honeywell UV light system from a major home supply company as I was having a mold smell in my HVAC system in the summertime. 3.0 out of 5 stars Note that UV light will damage flex duct lining
Note that the inside of most flex duct is **not** UV-resistant, and constant exposure to this UV light will damage the flex duct lining. The product description page probably should mention this. I don't know how well it works because I couldn't find a place to mount it where it wasn't shining on the inside of the flex duct.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purchased, Installed and working great for a year, June 27, 2009
This review is from: Honeywell RUVLAMP1/C UV Air Treatment System (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased the Honeywell UV light system from a major home supply company as I was having a mold smell in my HVAC system in the summertime. We had the vents cleaned and sprayed with anti mold/fungal spray and two weeks later it was back. We had our HVAC company come out and tell us the coils were dirty and covered with some mold on the downstream side. They would have to remove the entire coil box from our crawlspace (cut the refrigriant lines!!!), break it open, clean it out and then replace the entire unit for the low, low price of $500. Forget it. I bought a can of coil cleaner, put on my rubber gloves and safety goggles and got into the unit from the upstream and downstream sides, cleaned it and installed this unit to keep the mold from growing.

The unit itself comes with the bulb and socket with a plug and good instructions on how to install. You will need to have an outlet near by which I didn't. (Needed to run a new outlet near the install site)You will also need a hole saw that can cut through metal or a saw and a very steady hand. It can be done, just be carefull to cut the hole correctly and clean up the shavings.

Installed, plugged in and working fine. No more mold smell. It's a quartely check of the bulb to wipe it down and make sure it's still on. There is no on-off switch, just plug it in and it's on.

JUST A NOTE: DO NOT PLUG THE BULB IN UNTIL IT'S IN THE DUCTWORK!! DO NOT LOOK AT THE BULB WHEN IT'S ON. It can damage your eyesight. Install the bulb in the system and then plug it in. There is a little blue light on the face of the unit that lets you know it's on.

It's an easy install and does work.

Item works perfectly. Cheaper than Lowes, Home Depot, or other dept stores. The HVAC guy wanted to charge us $500 for the light and install. I bought it on Amazon for a little over a hundred bucks and had it installed in 30 min. My wife's allergy problems stopped a few days after install. Product is def worth it!

Honeywell RUVLAMP1/C UV Air Treatment System

I recently purchased and installed this unit in the return side of my HVAC system. It comes well packaged and secure. The instructions are very clear and very specific about the dangers of looking at the UV light when it's operating (DON'T DO IT!). A 2" metal cutting hole saw and a 3/32" drill bit are the only tools required. It comes with an installation template marking the center of the 2" hole and the 3/32" holes. Installation is a snap. It also includes several warning labels (self adhesive) to apply below the unit and 2 other locations to alert service personnel about it. I highly recommend this unit. I'll update this in a few months after it's been running for awhile.

Found product to be easy to install. The only challange was finding an accessible location that ensured blower would not obstruct insertion.

Based on review of studies found on internet, vendor claims of uv light benefits appear to be valid.

Use of this light in conjunction with an electrostatic filter has improved our home environment considerably.

5.0 out of 5 stars Working Beautifully, January 10, 2012

I got this because in the winter months our house is closed up tight, and when we get sick it just keeps cycling and we never really get feeling entirely better till we are able to get out more in the Spring. Once I installed this unit in our duct, I noticed a few things. The slight musty odor that was in the furnace when I would change the filter disappeared. The filter looked more healthy, less dark gray. The length of the seasonal illness was shortened drastically. Also the bulb has lasted since I ordered it, 7 months ago. I'm really glad I got this UV system.

Amazon replaced my unit free when it broke after 11 months. The manufacturer told me to call Amazon and not them. Thanks Amazon for replacing the unit. It seems to me the manufacturer should have replaced it. The product appears to be good quality, so I am not sure why it broke after 11 months. I hope the replacement one lasts a long time. The unit is made to stay on all the time. I think other models turn on and off. I would say it is your call whether you want to give it a try.

1.0 out of 5 stars waste of money!!!!!!, January 4, 2012
This review is from: Honeywell RUVLAMP1/C UV Air Treatment System (Tools & Home Improvement)
I had the Honeywell uv lamp installed in my home for $589!!! within 2 months it blow a bulb I replaced it(and the bulbs are Expensive!) and one month later it blew another bulb The installer checked it and found nothing wrong with the install(which is basic, cut a hole in the duct and plug it in) so I contacted Honeywell and they were a waste of time They had excuse after excuse, blaming everyone, installer , me etc... Dont waste your money even when it was on it seemed to do NOTHING Read the goverment reports there is NO proof that it does anything unless you put a professional, real professional (thousands of dollars) This is my opinion from my time of using it but now its just an expensive plug to cover the hole in the duct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
