Amazon.com Product Description

The Honeywell TE653ELW Complete Barometric Weather Forecaster with Atomic Clock combines a stylish appearance with invaluable weather and time information. Using this TE653ELW is the quickest, most accurate, and most convenient way of keeping track of the weather in and around your home or office.

The Honeywell TE653ELW is a complete weather forecaster.

Honeywell TE653ELW Complete Barometric Weather Forecaster with Atomic Clock
Quickest and most accurate way of keeping track of weather.
Time

More than just a personal weather forecaster, the TE653ELW includes a built-in clock that can display the current time, and this clock really will display the current time, since it receives radio signals from the U.S. Atomic Clock in Fort Collins, Colorado. Not only does it consistently adjusts the clock to within one second of official U.S. government, but automatically adjusts the time for Daylight Savings Time as well. Aside from that it also displays the date in a month and day format.

Weather

Featuring a 24-hour barometric pressure history chart, comfort level indicators, and large graphical 12 to 24- hour weather forecast with icons (sunny, cloudy, rainy, etc.), this barometric weather forecaster can monitor temperature and humidity in up to three remote locations. It includes one TS33C wireless indoor/outdoor temperature and humidity sensor and can utilize up to a total of three remote sensors with remote channels auto scan monitoring (Additional sensors are sold separately.) The sensors have an effective unobstructed transmission range of approximately 100 feet. As an added convenience, this system contains a programmable ice warning alarm, which lets you know when a frost is predicted so you can take precautions as well as a moon phase display so you can follow when that next full moon will occur. And for those who like to keep track of the highs and lows, the TE653ELW has a memory that stores the minimum/maximum outdoor/indoor temperature and humidity. When the remote sensor is powered by two AA alkaline batteries, the unit has an outside temperature range of minus 4 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit and minus 38 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit if lithium batteries are used. For humidity monitoring, the clock has an indoor and outdoor range of 25 to 90 percent.

Included Remote Sensor (TS33C).
Display

As convenient as it is accurate the display unit can be mounted on the wall so you always know right where to look, or sit on your desktop and go. The TE653ELW uses easy-to-read digits on a bright, blue backlit LCD display that allows you to read its information at a glance day or night. Both the main display and the remote sensor each run on two AA batteries (not included), and are backed by a manufacturer's one-year warranty. No AC Adapter Required.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, instructions a bit weak, January 26, 2008

This review is from: Honeywell TE653ELW Portable Barometric Weather Forecaster (Kitchen)
I agree with the previous customers who stated that the product is a bit hard to set up.

I followed the "Quick Start Guide" and I ran into a couple issues...

First off, I had to get my altitude from my GPS unit, but I am sure there is some info off the internet that should get you close.

Secondly the dang Time Zone issue. I tried and tried and tried, and finally after several attempts I got it. The key to changing your time zone is make sure the Day is displayed next the time SA for example. Then holding the ^ UP button allows you to change your time zone. Intially I had the seconds next to the time and it would not allow me to change the time zone.

Hope this helps someone out there and saves them the 30 minutes of my life I wont get back ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars Reliable, but awful documentation and UI, November 2, 2007
This review is from: Honeywell TE653ELW Portable Barometric Weather Forecaster (Kitchen)
The bad part first: the user interface is bad enough that you MUST use the manual to set it up - - and the manual is poorly-written and organized.

The good: It's cheap, and all the functions I use work perfectly. The display is clear and well-organized. The data seems pretty accurate, and the forecasting function is right more often than not.

I've had (and returned) several inexpensive weather stations now, and while all their user interfaces have been horrible, this Honeywell is the first one I've had which actually worked as promised.

1.0 out of 5 stars Read ALL Product Inserts, January 6, 2007

This review is from: Honeywell TE653ELW Portable Barometric Weather Forecaster (Kitchen)
The "User Manual" does not clearly cover how to set the time zone. Setting the applicable time zone is imperative. If it is not properly set, the atomic feature will automatically set the clock to the Pacific time zone. Unfortunately, the "User Manual" is poorly written and not all inclusive of the procedures involved in setting the unit up. They did, however, include another insert which details the process a little better.

The back light stays on for 3-4 seconds. Which is not enough time to view the readings.

The unit has a barometer which will only be accurate if you set the proper altitude. The "User Manual" is, again, not super-clear on how to accomplish this. The insert does clear things up a bit. The altitude must be set within seconds of inserting the batteries.

The unit is made of cheap plastic and the buttons are difficult to depress.

Once the weekly alarm is set, there is no way to turn it off. Additionally, once the weekly alarm is set, the unit sounds the alarm at midnight and again at the set time. There is no way to turn off the midnight alarm.

In short, the product could be improved by simply providing a better "User Manual".
