'nuff said. If you are looking for music to do martial arts musical forms to, look somewhere else. Anywhere else. Anywhere. I mean, I'd rather do forms to the Barney song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Check Out Listening Cues - Will Seal the Deal, February 21, 2010

This review is from: Hong Kong Cinema's Greatest Hits - Martial Arts (Audio CD)
Perhaps I am easy to please but I thoroughly enjoyed this CD. All you really need to do is get past the "Martial Arts" part of the title. Anyone who enjoys Hong Kong cinema or more traditional Chinese Music will find something to like in this album. Some tracks are energetic and some reflective but they each have a charm of their own. I especially enjoyed the use of traditional Chinese instruments in most of the tracks and the mixing of Chinese and Western instrumentation. This should be a good starter album for someone not familiar with Chinese music. Before passing up on this CD, please take a few minutes to check out the listening cues to see if it is right for you. The sound quality is crystal clear and performances are excellent. As far as the music, the only drawback are a couple tracks that seem too Westernized for this album. If you like this CD, you definitely have to search for Once Upon a Time in China, Vol. 1 (they never made a Volume 2) on Varese.

My primary reservation is that, outside of Raise the Red Lantern, track titles-film identifications are not specified as to whether the title cited is the movie the track is from or the name of the track without specifying the film title.

All in all, though, if you like what you hear on the listening cues, you will enjoy this CD.
