Phil Stong became famous in l932 with his Iowa classic, "State Fair," which went on to become a smash hit broadway musical by Rogers & Hammerstein. His titles include 39 novels, many short stories and screen plays. His other children's work include Phil Stong's Big Book, and Way Down Cellar.

When Waino and Ivar find a moose in their father's stable, the critter looked so sad they couldn't bear to shoot him. The final solution to this unique situation is as heartwarming as it is entertaining. This is a delightful tale based on a true story from Biwabik, Minnesota, and replete with historical information about life for Finnish immigrant children in Minnesota. When it was originally published, Honk: The Moose won distinction as a Newbery Honors Book in 1936. It went on to win the Lewis Carol Shelf Award in 1970, and was listed in Cattermole's 100 Best Children's Books of the 20th Century. Now in a new edition from Trellis Publishing, Phil Strong's Honk: The Moose (wonderfully illustrated by Kurt Wiese) is once again introduced to a whole new generation of appreciative children.

This book was a 1936 Newbery Honor winner that has been republished deservedly so. A cute story of two boys who discover a moose has found his way into the barn with the horses. After a bit of an uproar the town sort of adopts this moose that the boys name Honk. After years out of publication the mayor of the real - life town in the book did what he had to do to have this award winning book reprinted. Thank you sir! A short fast read and a great story.

This is a chapter book. My daughter read it over a period of nights to her children. She said it was enjoyable to all and humorous.
