5.0 out of 5 stars Honk!, June 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Honk!: A Musical Comedy (1998 English Pantomime Cast) (Audio CD)
Honk! is a great show all ages. I am currently cast in the musical as Ida the mother of Ugly (the ugly duckling). The musical is made for people of all ages. I've found that teenagers and adults can have as much fun with this show as kids if not more so. The show contains many great one liners that can be really funny...if u get them. The music is great and the characters are really fun. I'm sure that if you listened to the music and/or saw the show you would have just as much fun as I have been having.

5.0 out of 5 stars I give it 5 "honks"!, June 19, 2000
This review is from: Honk!: A Musical Comedy (1998 English Pantomime Cast) (Audio CD)
This adaptation of a Hans Christen Anderson tale brings catchy tunes and clever lyrics (in addition to imaginitive costumes and sets in the stage show) to the familiar Ugly Duckling story. Well worth hearing and seeing, if you can.

Although I have not had the pleasure of seeing it, I recently bought the American cast album of this musical, performed last year by the Music Theatre of Wichita. I have to say that the music is wonderful. I'm sure the show is just as wonderful too!

Recommended for the young...and the young at heart. Go see it when it plays in your hometown.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightful and Amusing Soundtrack!, July 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Honk!: A Musical Comedy (1998 English Pantomime Cast) (Audio CD)
This hillarious soundtrack is a modern adaptation of the Ugly Duckling. Geared for kids, but still enjoyable for adults, I'd recommend this soundtrack and play to anyone who likes to laugh.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most underappreciated musicals of its generation, May 22, 2005
This review is from: Honk!: A Musical Comedy (1998 English Pantomime Cast) (Audio CD)
I have to admit that when I first heard about "Honk!", I was a bit skeptical, as I know many of my friends were. A musical about the Ugly Duckling? I mean, come on, it doesn't exactly sound like a hit show. Don't let the premise fool you, though. It's a clever re-working of a well-known tale that's just as much for adults as it is for kids (sort of in the same vein as "Once Upon A Mattress", for anyone who's familiar with that show). It's one of my favorite shows and my friends and I are lucky enough to currently be in a production of it (I'm playing Maureen and Queenie). It's a great showcase for a small ensemble (the show can be done with as few as four men, four women, and four kids- the parts are divided up in the script so that everyone plays several roles except for Ugly, Ida, and the Cat), but also works wonderfully with a large cast, such as in a high school musical. It's witty, clever, cute enough for kids but smart enough for adults, and has some great character parts for a wide range of actors. The music is excellent and very catchy. Any showtunes fan out there should give this soundtrack a listen- don't be surprised when it fully exceeds your expectations.

Ever since i was in 7th grade i have been doing musicals, my grand total of shows is about 20 (i'm only in 11th grade). And HONK! is the current one, and it is more fun than anything other show i have done! I'm not a lead, but suporting, and it is worth it to just be in the show! The musical is beautyful and witty, it will have your audience in fits of laughter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Honk! - A growing masterpiece, August 18, 2004
This review is from: Honk!: A Musical Comedy (1998 English Pantomime Cast) (Audio CD)
My name is Patrick, and my high school just finished performing Honk! about three months ago. I have played eight leading roles, including Ugly in Honk!, from big name musicals (Valjean in Les Miserables, Jesus in Godspell, Jack in Into The Woods, Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors, Ren in Footloose, Benjy in My Favorite Year, and Henrik in A Little Night Music). I normally only like listening to dark, gothic musicals such as Les Mis, Jekyll and Hyde, Scarlett Pimpernel, etc. However, one of the all time best roles I ever played was Ugly in Honk! The message is truly amazing, and the music is so addictive. You cannot listen to the CD without a little laugh here and there, regardless of how many times you've heard it. It's a musical that grabs the audience right away and never lets them go. It's phenominal. I give it two thumbs up, and if I had a third one, I would give it that, too. If you're looking into a new musical to fall in love with, Honk! is your answer. Amazing! (Remember, it beat out The Lion King in England for best musical. - rightfully so!!)

My son just recentently finished portraying Ugly in a regional theatre production. The music is beautiful and touching. You'll laugh and you'll cry. Then you'll laugh until you cry. It's a great show and the soundtrack does it justice!

I've been in several plays and musicals throughout my 16 years of being, but the last musical i did was Honk! I was Fluff, one of Ugly's brothers and sisters. This has absolutey amazing songs and the corniest but funniest dialogue. I would recommend this musical to anyone!!!
