Erotic romance anthology not for the timid!,
By baltimore0502 "Hon!" (BALTIMORE, MD USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honk If You Love Real Men (Paperback)
I bought this book for Lora Leigh (a fave erotic romance author) and Susan Donovan (a fave contemporary romance author) and neither of then let me down. I enjoyed both of their stories. I had never read anything from Carrie Alexander but I enjoyed her story as well. I must say that I was a bit surprised at Ms Britton's story and found myself not enjoying it at all.
First up is Ms Alexander's story of Estrella and Jesse. Estrella has been lusting after a guy working on a road crew in the neighborhood where she works. She's a maid for a wealthy female executive and when her boss goes out of town on business, she borrows her car, her clothes and her apartment in order to lure the hot road crew guy into her bed. Jesse sees through her "car trouble" ploy immediately but decides to see where this whole farce will go. If she's a rich lady looking to play, why not play along? Well, what he finds is a woman full of contradictions and obviously, as he discovers, not what she seemed. I liked this story. Sure, the plot is contrived but what I really liked were Estrella and Jesse. It's rare to find blue collar leads in romances and here we have a Latina and an ex-con who are both trying hard to build better lives for themselves after past mistakes. I found it refreshing, enjoyable and, of course, steamy! To be honest, I more skimmed than read Ms Britton's story of a woman who had been raped by her fiance who is looking to get her sexual footing back. She returns to her home town and to the guy whose heart she broke in high school. He's the only guy she trusts to help her recover her sexual self. Of course he is all too willing to comply. Yuck. I thought she was incredibly selfish and he put up with way too much. And I feel I must warn readers of her other books who may not expect it, she does push the envelope with a rather torrid girl-on-girl scene. Not for me. Susan Donovan is one of my fave authors of contemporary romance and this is another of her fun, amusing and sexy stories. Win is a screenwriter who has hit a slump but still has a deadline to meet. Her agent sends her off to his cabin in the woods to get her inspiration back. Fully knowing that some of the appliances may not be in working order and that her neighbor Mac, a capable and hunky Navy SEAL on leave, is nearby to fix anything that goes wrong. Anything. Will he agree to be her muse? Sexy fun! In Lora Leigh's story Raven has had it bad for Reno for years. They both know it just as she knows he's been crazy about her as well. He never acted on his feelings because she was too young at the time. He joined the Navy, traveled the world, waiting for her to mature. Now he's back, home on leave, and the waiting is over. He and Raven will finally act on the mutual attraction that sizzles between them. But when feelings intensify can Raven get over her fears about his being a SEAL? She saw what it did to her parent's marriage, can she deal any better than her mother? Intense, hot and emotional. Classic Lora Leigh.

Steamy Read For Your Summer Reading List!,
By
This review is from: Honk If You Love Real Men (Paperback)
This steamy anthology is a great addition for your summer reading list. All four stories are hot, spicy, and romantic and each delivers fun character driven stories.
"Naughty Girl" is the story of Estrella who is given a chance to be someone she isn't and pursues the one man that has been keeping her up late at night. Road construction worker Jesse Drummond. Does she have what it takes to be a "naughty girl?" "Wanted:One Hot Blooded Man" is the story of one woman looking for a way to not be scared of intimacy. Bree goes to her best friend and old high school sweetheart. But the boy has become a man. Will he have what Bree is looking for, and will she allow herself to feel what he makes her feel? "Have Mercy" is the story of a screenplay writer Winifried Mackland. She has too pen the hottest, sexiest conclusion to her movie series that she has even dreamt about. But first she has to find her muse. What she finds is a recovering SEAL. Oh, and he is a perfect example of her action adventure hero. Will this SEAL do double duty as a muse and find love at the same time? "Reno's Chance" is the story of a SEAL that has finally finished waiting for the girl of his dreams to grow up and realize that what she wants is him. But how far will he have to go to prove that to her? All four of these stories offer steamy toe curling love scenes, not for the faint of heart that's for sure. This was a fast-paced read and perfect for taking on the road, to the beach, or just kicking back for enjoyable afternoon of reading. Official Reviewer for Romance Designs

So...like many others I bought this book to read the story "Reno's Chance" by Lora Leigh. I always try to read series stories in order and that story was the 1st in her Tempting Seal series. I must admit I was not familiar with the other authors in this book but found that I liked the book as a whole. I read the stories out of order on purpose based on my interest and stories I was in the mood for saving "Reno's Chance" for last. The funny thing is the Lora Leigh story left me wanting more and was not my favorite. So much for a method to my reading order;)
NAUGHTY GIRL by Carrie Alexander -I really liked this one. The couple Jesse "Drum" Drummond & Estrella Ianesque seemed like everyday flawed people and I enjoyed their story. I must admit it started slow for me. WANTED: ONE HOT-BLOODED MAN by Pamela Britton- This story was the 1 that did NOT do it for me. Her damage "issues" and how the author dealt with them bored me. I liked the interaction of the couple but I wanted it to flow differently. HAVE MERCY by Susan Donovan- This story was my favorite. I liked the whole idea the female lead Win thought she needed a "muse" to write and how the couple got together. The story was fun and had a good pace for a short story. RENO 'S CHANCE by Lora Leigh- I am glad I read it to start her Tempting Seal series. I wish it was longer. I know I will see these characters again in the series and can't wait. I ususally love all of these authors, but these stories left a little to be desired. Definitely decent, but not a book I would necessarily recommend to friends... Stories were reeeaally hard to believe. I mean hey, we read these books so we can escape from our everyday boring lives (LOL!) but they need to be somewhat believable in order to be enjoyed...
The cover hooked me and I was a little disappointed once I started reading...

four interesting contemporary romances,
This review is from: Honk If You Love Real Men (Paperback)
"Naughty" Girl" by Carrie Alexander. Estrella has seen the construction worker from the bus for weeks now and each time she salivates over him. Her friend Brenda learns he is Jesse and encourages Estrella to make a play for him. She does pretending to be a sophisticated lady planning to seduce the hunk in her boudoir or swimming pool when she is not cleaning the place as a maid.
"Wanted: One Hot-Blooded Man" by Pamela Britton. The rape left Breanna fearing male contact especially sexual. She decides only her high school sweetheart who she has not seen in ten years can help her. Breanna travels across the country to tie up Trent with desire and hopefully overcome her fears. "Mercy Me" by Susan Donovan. Screenwriter Winifred suffers from writer's block just when she needs her next work, the Max Mercy script, finished. Her agent Artie decides she needs to leave town to concentrate so he arranges for her to work in the Berkshires. Expecting isolation, Win meets her neighbor Mac, who is there to heal from injuries, but both find an attraction instead. "Reno's Chance" by Lora Leigh. Raven always desired the brother of her best friend Morganna, but Reno never seems to reciprocate, treating her instaed like another sister. Reno is home from the SEALs on leave, but circumstances forces him to live with Raven who decides this is her opportunity to show him she does not want a brother. These are four interesting contemporary romances with three humorous tales while Pamela Britton's provides a serious drama, which seems out of place. Still these are fine novellas that readers will welcome. Harriet Klausner

Tempting SEALs #1 by Lora Leigh (only),
By
This review is from: Honk If You Love Real Men (Paperback)
The first Tempting SEALs is the novella "Reno's Chance", and is really quite a wonderful story of a beautifully drawn alpha-alpha U.S. Navy SEAL, Reno, who is attempting to claim his woman, Raven, a woman he's known all her life, but a wary woman who observed her parents' unhappy marriage. Dad was a SEAL (like Reno) and Mom hated it, leading to destructive arguments each time he went out on a mission, missions that grew longer and more frequent as time went by. One day he didn't return -- alive, anyway, and her Mom spiralled into a deep depression. Raven was terrified of losing Reno to death, and her reaction to that terror was to push Reno away; she needed to protect herself. However, Reno had never lost a campaign yet...
Note to those who have read "Dangerous Games" but not yet read "Reno's Chance": Like all Lora Leigh stories, this one is very sexy, and Reno is most definitely an alpha male and is quite dominating in the bedroom. However, Reno, unlike Clint in "Dangerous Games", is not a Dominant, so if BSDM is not your cup of tea, you can safely read this story. The second Tempting SEALs is Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs, Book 2); the third is a novella in Real Men Do It Better (Tempting SEALs, Book 3); and the fourth is Hidden Agendas (Tempting SEALs, Book 4). I couldn't believe that this was the book I wanted for so long. It was...oi vey...
Naughty Girl - This was a sweet story, kind of cute. However, the fact that she'd been abused and was trying to make herself believe she was a "dirty" girl was not realistic, and huge turn-off. Wanted: One Hot-Blooded Man - I don't know what Britton was thinking when she wrote this. It was quite disturbing. When you are raped, you don't suddenly want to have a lesbian experience. This was just so wrong is so many places - the whole story was a terrible description of mental trauma, and not at all realistic. Have Mercy - Not even gonna go into how ridiculous this story was. Reno's Choice - If this had been a little longer I might have liked it. But Raven was so angry. She also dressed kind of...well, skanky, for a virgin. And Reno was a little too arrogant and dominant for me. As hot as the sex scenes were, the lack of...everything else vitally important in a story was too much to overlook.

Lora Leigh is the reason for my purchase, the other authors are a way-enjoyed bonus. And who doesn't love a strong, dominant man? Don't mind the puddle under my chin - the guys are just too hot to ignore. I don't think I had a problem with anything in the book, other than a few grammatical errors. But, as an author, I know that some things can get overlooked even if you try meticulously to comb through your words. It's just that the story is so familiar to you that you put in the right words in your mind while you're reading because you know what's supposed to be. That's why I demand my family to correct my stories. One editor is good, three is a kick in the rump.
So other than that, great book, awesome stories, totally righteous writers.

I don't usually read romances with such details. There may be some that may not enjoy the love scenes so grafic. But all for the price was a good deal and quick reads.
