I was so glad I watched "Dear Mom, Love Cher" on the Life Time channel the other day.

Georgia has a very soulful sound to her voice and I love the older songs.

Georgia Holt has a smooth sultry delivery. She has a way with a lyric and a song.Obviously Cher was very influenced by her mothers musicality.Their harmonies are superb.Country is a perfect setting for their union. When they sing a duet, the vocals intertwine like a beautiful country vine.Cher did right in remastering and producing this tribute to a very talented woman,Georgia Holt.We are fortunate she took this under her wing. This cd was accurately named Honkey Tonk Woman ,as it shows the roots of Miss Jackie Jean Crouch,a young girl who hitch-hiked with her father and sang in country bars as a young girl. Georgia is a genuine country singer. In fact on some of the ballads she gives Such nuance and feeling she amazes me.Patsy Cline- be proud! This album is a professional outing, don't let it confuse you that she is Cher's mom.

This is a great album for people who like traditional country and of course those who like Cher. You can tell where Cher got her deep strong voice from as she sounds a lot like her mother. In fact if you did not know, you would think this was 70's Cher doing a country album. Actually, Georgia's voice is smoother than Cher's, her vibrato is more subdued and controlled, with the same deep sexy tone quality. It is nice that Georgia's dream has finally come true and that we can all enjoy her long lost recordings.

This CD sounds like the country my dad played around the house in the early 70's... pure country sound and Georgias voice is so similar to her daughters, but with a country flair. Cher remastered this CD for her mom and then decided to make it available to all. Great gift to Chers mum...and to us! Kudos!

Oh. Dear. I love this entire album!!

There is so much to love; not the least of which is the care and devotion with which Cher has remastered the tracks of these fabulous songs in order to make her mother's dream come true. I've always enjoyed Cher's music and adored her turns as an actress. With this, a new respect is born of the personal kind.

Then, there is the music of my youth, made alive again out of recordings that would have surely made Georgia Holt a HUGH Country Star. Her oh-so-distinctive voice is sultry and lilting at the same time and this album shows off her versatility between classic ballad and playful irreverence, deliciously.

I've been a fan of Country Music since I was a kid, and yes, that means from just about the time that Honky Tonk was still the standard of the industry. I didn't realize how very much I missed it until I bought this album, and with the passing of the great George Jones, the timing of the release of "Honky Tonk Woman" goes a long way in soothing this old timer's aching heart.

Beginning with, "Love Me Tender," I can honestly say I have never liked this song so much as I do now! Very few people could have taken a song so ingrained in the cultural psyche and reshape and mold it to her own style so effortlessly. Dare I say it? I think I just fell in love with this song.

My particular favorite however, will forever and always be, "You Can't Go Home Again," for the simple fact that, my mother, (Nance Crawford), being the reason I grew up loving Country Music, is also the author of this song. I used to cry when she played it because I've always thought it a hauntingly beautiful lyric and melody. Today, I find myself crying because Georgia has brought it back to life for me.

I don't know what I was expecting from Ms. Holt upon release of this CD. I was not expecting anything heinous, but amazingly, I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I do. Georgia has a smooth and sultry voice that wrings every bit of emotion from every word of her songs. Yes, there is a similarity in tone to her daughter Cher, yet they are infinitely different. The one thing she shares with Cher is that deep heart wrenching delivery on the low notes, but at times she has an energy to her voice that brings to mind k.d. Lang.

On "I'm Just Your Yesterday" they are distinctly apart in vocal styles, yet harmonize beautifully because of the minor similarities. "I Sure Don't Want To Love You" and "Movin' On" are anthems that would get an arena crowd on it's feet singing along. "Las Vegas Blues" is an addictive toe tapper that will get the two-steppers on their feet and on the dance floor. "I Bought The Love That You Gave Me" and "I Wonder Where You Are Tonight" show a lovely, deep melancholy country/blues feel to Georgia's delivery and you could almost imagine a duet with Patsy Cline unfolding, though Ms. Holt does a wonderful job of channeling Patsy all on her own. Georgia's rendition of "Love Me Tender" is the stuff that smokey honky tonks were made for, simple, heartfelt and to the point. "You Can't Go Home Again", "Homecoming Queen" and "Cryin' Time" are the stand-out message songs on this collection. Sad in their universal story telling and wonderfully written in heart breaking rhyme.

All in all, a wonderful and surprising release from a woman who apparently waited for just the right time in her life to tell her story.
