A South Carolina native w/ a better voice than Darius Rucker,

For the past few years, I have been buying albums based more on listening to the album prior to purchase than impulse buying off decent radio airplay. I had never heard of this guy before & was recommended to hear the CD. After one minute of each of the first two songs, I bought it. This man is unbelievable. Power, depth, emotion - all mixed into the perfect blend of music. Solitude is one of the greatest songs I've heard in the past few years. 3 AM is pure emotion. The rest of the album is great. His band is very good. Craig Shields adds saxophones & such in a peculiar blend. TJ Hall on drums brings just just enough power & subtlety to the music. Scott Bannevich's bass gives the songs their tone & lets Edwin do the rest. And get this - he's even better in concert & his new album kicks butt! One of the best albums in a while - if only he could get some serious airplay.

The original, the best, and nearly the lost art,

This is the album that introduced Edwin McCain to the world, and it is a wonderful amalgam of rock, blues, and jazz, featuring acoustic and electric guitars perfectly blended with saxophones and woodwinds, layered with Edwin's beautfully powerful voice. There is no other album out there with this particular sound.
If you have ever loved an Edwin McCain song, then you simply must get this album. Unfortunately, the woodwinds abruptly disappeared on his next few albums, only to reappear in the latest "Scream and Whisper". You'll appreciate them here.

Hooked from the first song,
This review is from: Honor Among Thieves (Audio CD)
My wife and I saw Edwin McCain open for Hootie & the Blowfish at a 1995 concert in Iowa. This was just a few days before Honor Among Thieves was released, and I hadn't heard of him before that night. His act was incredible--I haven't seen someone perform with such passion too often before or since. He certainly overshadowed the headlining act! This first CD definitely lived up to my high expectations--I picked it up the first day it was available and it's been in my personal CD rotation ever since. I'm especially partial to "Alive" and "Jesters, Dreamers and Thieves", but after those it's nearly impossible for me to rate the other songs. Absolutely incredible. I highly recommend this title.
