Can a Kidnap Victim Learn to Love her Kidnapper?,
By Jill Clardy "So many books, so little time...." (Redwood City, CA USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Honor Bound (Hardcover)
Aislinn Andrews returns home to her condo in Arizona one evening to find escaped convict, half-Navajo Indian Lucas Greywolf raiding her refrigerator. He had intended to be gone before she returned home, but now he had no choice other than to take her hostage. She is frightened by the hint of brutality and at the same time drawn to his raw sexuality. He resents everything about her, since she represents to him the white oppressors of his people. They flee across the state, avoiding police roadblocks, to their final destination, which is to be at the deathbed of his revered grandfather. When she sees him in his world among his people, Aislinn realizes that Lucas is not the cruel, unemotional criminal that he has portrayed. Lucas is recaptured and finishes out his sentence. Since Aislinn chose not to report that he had kidnapped and held her hostage, his sentence was not extended. When he is released from prison less than a year later, his first stop is to visit Aislinn and thank her for not turning him in. The relationship that began through their chance meeting a year earlier is not over, not surprisingly, since the book is only half over. Thus begins the next phase of their relationship, which is full of misunderstandings and surprises. They have so much to learn about each other and each has to set aside many stereotypes and biases to discover the person beneath the skin color. Although the prospect of a woman falling in love with a man who kidnapped her and threatened her is highly improbable, I enjoyed this romance novel since it culminated in a happy ending for two people who were meant to be together.

If You Have to Be Kidnaped...,
By Wendy Kaplan (Houston) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honor Bound (Paperback)
...it might as well be by brooding, gorgeous Lucas Greywolf, a Navajo-rights agitator who has escaped from prison. Intent on a mission only he knows, Lucas kidnaps Aislin, the blonde, blue-eyed daughter of a prominent Arizona couple--and flees across Arizona with hostage in tow.Danger, intrigue, and raw sexuality mark the desperate flight. What will happen to Aislin? She represents everything Anglo, whom Lucas loathes as oppressors of his people. He sees her as a symbol, not a woman. She, in turn, can't help being both awed and terrified by this dark and intense stranger whose motives she cannot guess. Both Lucas and Aislin have to let go of their stereotypes as they enter the Navajo reservation where Lucas has been bound all along. And both have to fight hard to deny the growing attraction between them. As this fast-moving and sexy story moves toward its inevitable conclusion, there are plenty of surprises on the way--for Lucas, his family--and Aislin. As improbable as the plot may be, this is nevertheless one of Sandra Brown's best. Lucas Greywolf is one of her most finely drawn male heroes, and Aislin is more than his match. A perfect read for a cold winter's day!

Well... I liked it and couldn't tell it was a re-issue!,
By janlouise (Ruston, LA United States) - See all my reviews

For some reason I had been putting off reading it - and I really was hesitant when I saw the original printing date was several years ago. But my mind was changed soon after starting the book. It has a good story line and plenty of romance, too. The end could have been different but... don't get me wrong- it is still a sweet one. What's the story line? Lucas breaks out of prison to go home after receiving word that his much-loved grandfather is on his death bed. On his way back to the reservation he makes a much needed stop for food and rest in an apartment he happens to pick out. Come to find out it belongs to a pretty blue-eyed, blonde, English, young lady- Aislinn. Oh, no! An Anglo- just who Lucas thinks of as an enemy. Aislinn is on her own trying to separate herself from wealthy, domineering parents - with no plans of starting a relationship up with any man. There is a stirring in Lucas' heart and his ... (let's say sexual desire) and instead of taking her food, car and leaving her behind, Lucas takes Aislinn as a hostage. The story gets going then. He does make it to his grandfather before Joseph dies. Lucas takes out his sorrow on Aislinn in a very real way - and then he and she has to live with it's consequences. I'll let you read the story to find out what that is. I enjoyed it and would recommend your reading it. It's a good story...

Lighten up!,
This review is from: Honor Bound (Hardcover)
Lucas Greywolf is so HOT!!!!! I tease my husband saying that my next husband will be a Native American! I have sent this book with friends and have gotten the same review! It is a romance novel, not a literary classic! Lighten up ladies and enjoy this diversion to housework!

Since i am an avid reader of sandra brown, i've come to know her writing style. I knew there would be a baby the moment that lucas showed up at aislinn's door. its one of the rare books that i actually agree with the female main character's descision. they didnt draw out the confessing-of -the-love plot like she has in so many of her book. It was a good book and it reads very quickly. I recommend it to anyone who wants a quick boost in the romance department.

Honor Bound is a simple timeless love story,
By Desmond Chan (Bishan North Singapore) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honor Bound (Hardcover)
This hardcover release of one of Sandra Brown's classic romance written using her pesudonym Erin St. Clare may feel outdated but its theme of underlying racial tension and love is resonant. Escaped convict and ex-lawyer Lucas Greywolf is a Native Arizona Indian wrongly accused as a dissident who desperately needs to see his dying grandfather the last time. He holds the innocent "Anglo" Aislinn Andrews as hostage and shares a night of passion that yields a child. Lucas, after his release, discovers her secret and forces her to marry. Aislinn finds herself surrendering to the hardened cynic as she unearths the honor and passion in Lucas as a lover and father. Honor Bound is a simple love tale packed with heated tension and emotions that unfortunately lacks the finesse of maestro Kathleen Eagle in depicting inter-racial romance. It, however, stays faithful to its exploration of the shades of love to satisfy romance readers.

Oldie but Goodie,
By
This review is from: Honor Bound (Hardcover)
Some reviewers said it was outdated - but I just want you all to know it's really not - it was published in 1986 so the setting is perfect for that time-frame. I think people see the 2002 republished date and think it should be more 'in-time' with today. Please keep in mind that this is really before cell phones and wi-fi ;)
With that being said - I'm an avid reader - and this one is one of my favorites - if not my favorite. But it IS the most read book that I own. There is something about the hunky bad boy who has an inner strength that's honorable and good. Yes Aislinn was kidnapped. Yes Lucas was a jerk. But you know what - this is fiction, and if I were kidnapped (in my fictional daydreams) - this is the man I'd want to take me. We all want to believe that there is good in people, that HE can be THE ONE, that we can fix whatever his issue is...and in this fiction - that happens. The story brings out emotions that we aren't always comfortable with and ends in a way, that to me, was highly satisfying. I loved it - and will continue to re-read this book for a very long time.

Outdated, but okay for Sandra,
By E.J. "excelyse" (Colorado) - See all my reviews

Definitely an outdated book culture-wise (some parts really bothered me). But, if you can get past that, it's a good, easy read. Victim falls in love with kidnapper. Nice scenes, and I liked both of the characters. Very unbelievable by today's standards, but, it's fiction so what-the-heck.

The real one, two sides of real people,
By Shanda Dimms (Boston) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honor Bound (Hardcover)
SB has given us a enlightening look into what many of us wish to know, our two sides. The reviewers here are doing something they should not, they are giving the story away, the entire story, so I have decided to write this review from a different point of view. I believe SB has had some desire to look inside the two lives of most of us in general. She strikes the nerve of curiosity fantastically. The reason for giving a review should be to recommend or not, but definitly not to ruin the story for others. I say absolutely yes read this one, it will entertain you if not do you some good. I hope I put a twist in this review by trying to avoid the basic story of the book but adding wonder to this wonderful THEME! A book I recommend that has a similar theme lurking back in the sales ranks and will do very well if it gets publicity is SB 1 by Karl Mark Maddox.

Very emotional, heartwarming read,

This book ranks in the top five of my favorit SB reads. Although it's short, the plot is very well-developed and the characters have amazing depth, especially the hero. Lucas Greywolf is one sexy man! You so feel for him and the emotional torture he goes through in this book. Other recommendations: any of SB's historicals, Slow Heat in Heaven.
