I like the "world" that was created for this story. It's quite interesting, though I wish there had been more detail on the demon's society. What kind of demon is the heroine? We know about the werewolves and their heirarchy, but not as much about the demons. Are they really demons or is that just what the werewolves call them? The story is rich with details, though at times it gets a bit bogged down. The "fight scenes" lack detail and could be longer, but the simplicity of them is striking. Sometimes simple is best.

The romance portion of the story is fairly typical for a werewolf story with the added bit of the demon/werewolf war. In this case, though, typical means good. It's a system that works and is well done.

All in all, this is an enjoyable urban fantasy - it's not too long which makes it perfect for a quick afternoon or late night read.

I REALLY hope that Rogers decides to write more about this world, as this was only a tantalizing peak. You won't find much development here, but there is a surprising amount of context squeezed into these few pages.

The magic and politics are palpable. The characters are compelling and sexy. There is plenty of lust and just the right amount of honor and commitment. I would have loved to spend more time with them, but I didn't come away from this unsatisfied.

I am a fan of Roger's other series- "Southern Arcana" and "Red Rock Pass," but I have to say that this little novella shows potential for a world that would surpass those ones. Nicely done!

ENJOY!

The story starts out with the escape of Callisto from a demon tribe with the help of a demon tribe member named Amaia. What later occurs is that Amaia falls in love with Orion, who is a powerful werewolf; along with Callisto brother. To say the least, I really liked this short story and the passionate love scenes that play out!!! Very steamy and a well rounded short story!!! :-)
